hello to all aw members,

if you had to chose between the modern fridgedaire washr dryers of today with agitatore or washplates (topload) with dumbdown water temp because of the energystar rating including frontload washer or the classic 1-18 washer with upand down agitator what would you chose?

my choice would be a classic washer but since i have never seen other than in pic or youtube vid these classic 1-18 for me it would have to be the westing house design with blue agitator and 5 wash rinse temp if i had to chose

I love the 'LOOK' of the classic washer, so much more attractive and sharp looking and easy to read, rather than many of the 'new' flat control panel machines out today which in my opinion are very ugly (like Whirlpool, Kenmore and Maytag just ugly to me and have to stand over the washer to see what you are selecting). I remember my aunt had this exact washer up until the late 90's and it was very noisy, when it was washing you could hear the chug chug chug throughout the house, probably one of the most noisy machines I ever heard, but very interesting.

If you want to see

a photo of what a former Sears customer thought of their newer Kenmore washer,
Go to Google map of the Sears Holdings headquarters in Hoffman Estates Illinois.
Once you close in enough to view Sears boulevard, click on the icon saying Sears Holdings, and a few photos are there at the bottom of a botched wood flooring install, and a hammered and spray paint signed washing machine. They trucked it there and dumped it, then uploaded the picture.

1-18

These will outwash ANY washer built today, and really are very dependable, I wouldn't give you 15 cents for any new set other than a top load Speed Queen with dial controls.

The 1-18 Frigidaire washers washed clothes and spun them out very well, but promoted a lot of linting. Other than that and some servicing problems with the dryers they were good machines, certainly better than any of the HE top loaders made today.
