The sink seems to be installed over the dishwasher. Strange!

That's GE's undersink dishwasher, promoted mainly to compact/multifamily installations.  The sink is only 6" deep and the top rack of the dishwasher is only half as deep (front-to-back) as the bottom rack.  They still offer this configuration today.

Here are a few images illustrating the dishwasher and how the installation worked.  GE's advertising said the dishwasher could be installed directly under a 24" single bowl sink or the dishwasher and a double bowl sink and disposer could be installed in a 36" width.  The sink is/was a special stainless steel sink that was only 6" deep and had the drain at the rear of the basin.  Installation required a 90 degree bend directly under the drain and an offset trap.
