I need to spend $1500 in other ways, but these don't show up on CL like some of the vintage appliances from CL.

Wow what a beautiful piece of history, looks to be in great shape and even includes all the documentation.

I wish they would have defined what "restored" means though.

I suppose that $1500 is a reasonable price for one of these, especially in this condition. But for that price it would be easy to put together a superior sounding component system.

I had a Fisher 500TX receiver.

Amazing . That's one keeper.

Very nice-but I am with Kb0nes-what is their definition of "restored"?Yes,for that price you can assemble an equivelant or better for the 1500 bucks. You have to figure a lot of that money is going to that pretty piece of furniture cabinet! And what kind of speakers does it have? What speaker is behind those pretty grills?

Fisher made...

their own speaker components in their PA plant.
Later SS version around '67,
IMHO not one of their more attractive cabinet design, a tad ornate.

Around 15 yrs ago we had a '62 President with 400-CX preamp, SA-300B amp, FM200B tuner, Miracord turntable, Ampex 202 tape deck, think we paid $200 for it, probably should have kept that one but it was 6ft long and weighed at least 200 lbs.

BTW...

it was components, Fisher's own discrete components of that year with OEM turntable and deck in a cabinet.

What kind of speakers behind the grills?

Good question, other than knowing they're 15" woofers. I haven't looked inside my 1967 Fisher Statesmen S692-IP(Italian Provincial)console(it was free) but those President 15" woofers are three inches bigger than in the Statesman. When I get a chance to look inside my unit, maybe I'll be able to identify the manufacturer?

15" or 12" and usually 3-way

in the better models, all paper cones - no dome tweeters &c at that time. Never heard a bad sounding Fisher console, even BOL Philharmonic or Custom Electras were nice for more casual listening, albeit not quite as able at higher dB listening levels.

Holy crap !!!

Nice reading your Audiophile opinions from back then. Brings back great memories before MP3 and Cd and all the other latest stuff.

Great sounds from US built systems. God Bless.

Hi Roger - you are right! My father-in-law bought a '68 Philharmonic and it sounds great. But it's not separates and it is what it is, as the current saying goes. :-)

I haven't owned or used Fisher consoles-so I don't know a lot about them.Since this is 1968-early SS then was pretty bad-better off tubed. It does have a nice Dual TT.Not familiar with the tape machine-only know Ampex pro and broadcast, commercial recording machines.

Hang a HDTV

You could hang an HDTV or UHDTV above and use this for the sound through the Aux. input. Same for your phone as the sound source. Bonus is that you can play vinyl on it.

Wow...

I need $1500 in a bad way. I've been looking to get my hands on a fisher for quite a while. Someday...
