Anyone dare to guess which machine is in surgery? All I wanted was to simply take the cabinet off and give her a nice shiny paint job.

NOT!

I really did say OH LAWD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's that grody stuff sticking out of the holes?

Gag me with a spoon.

All around the world...

...objects crumble for you (hear Sugar Ray singing).

Like, not one, but two of Gyro's agitators...and now this. Is it possible that you're incredibly butch -- and don't realize just how butch?

Barney Rubble had a son who busted everything, and he called him Bam-Bam.

;)

Sorry. What a first class bummer. I hope you can get the part to fix it.

Steve (the less butch Steve, that is).

That is the unmistakeable look of a sold tub machine with drain holes plugged with lint. My guess is your Rollermatic!
When restoring my Rollermatic I had to unplug EVERY single hole and actually filled a sandwich size baggie with the "plugs"! Gross!

Gansky was telling me a lot of machines got pulled out of service because of this. When the water could not escape through the ports it went right over the top of the tub---taking clothes right along with it!

Get out your needle nose pliers and a stool----its a tedious job!

It's not icky. It's just dry lint with minerals and detergent mixed in. It's not like the black and green slime you find in the bottom of the outer tub of a Filter Flo when liquid detergents have been used in it, not is it as messy as the black smeary powder from a GE clutch or Westinghouse snubbers and belts, or the oil that is sprayed inside the cabinets of some old WP and Maytag machines when the tranny starts leaking.

Ok the 1968 Rollermatic it is. I want to remove the entire tub and clean all of it. Guess the Tech-Talk books come out today. I am definately not the Frigidaire goo ruu. I have never taken a solid tub out of a rollermatic. YIKES.

Jason: That is all lint on the outer portion of the inner tub. It goes all around the tub. GROSS.

Here are a few more pics.

Steve you don't need to remove the tub, just wet that lint down and pull it out. That happens on most solid tub washers after many years of use, it not much difficult than cleaning a lint filter. Removing the tub to do that would add lots of extra work.

Solid tub and lint

My Mom had a 1959 Hotpoint washer that had lint in the holes at the top of the tub. I took a toothpick one day and pulled lint out of every hole. I filled up a small butter bowl with all that crap. After that we never had another problem with my brother's socks go over the top of the tub into the pump. Before then my mom was forever calling the repair guy out to the house because her washer was leaking. He almost always found a sock in it. My younger twin brothers were toddlers at the time.
