The adjustable fins fell out of the Variflex agitator on Lady Kenmore 900 series washer.

It's not causing damage. Will I get enough turnover and cleaning power using the agitator without fins?

Hi Floyde. It should be alright and you should still get normal laundry results. However, I would try an get that agitator replaced.

How did they fall off? I've taken this agitator apart and put it back together a number of times. Easier than you'd think.

I have no idea

Did a load of clothes and all 3 were in the bottom of the tub. I could never adjust the vanes to stay locked in and when agitation would start there was a load clicking coming from the agitator. It was that way when I bought it. I'm not handy at all so I would have to have someone do the repair. So as long as it seems to be working I will leave alone.

Reassembling A Vari-Flex KM Agitator

It will not work well with the fins not in place, with the fins out even on hi-speed agitation you are getting very little action.

Some one will have to remove the agitator bolt to fix this, you may be better off just putting in a regular agitator in if it can not be fixed easily, but in any event the washer is not going to be very useful without the three fins.

I have seen at least one of these agitators that would not hold a setting. No matter where you set it, it always ended up with the fins retracted all the way back in after washing a load of clothes. I personally always thought them unnecessarily complex and the previous agitator was a better one.

Couldn't you just put a Straight-Vane or Roto-Swirl on there and carry on?

Had a Vari Flex machine for over 20 years, never had an issue with the setting changing or the fins coming out.  This is odd.

I have spares. I don't think major surgery is involved. A nut driver or socket. Some simple tools.

Vari-Flex KM Agitator

Many standard capacity agitators will fit this washer, the bigger problem is getting the old agitator out, often agitators in this era would get really stuck on the agitator shaft and sometimes have to be broken off the AS unless you have a really good agitator puller.

The agi-tamer that is like a small round heavy duty plastic inflatable device slides under the agitator, hooks up to a water hose and inflates with water. The agitator pops up and off and you turn of the water & unhook and deflate. Works wonderfully well for nearly all applications.
