Hey fellas,
I'm having an appliance daydream, but I figured I'd try out the "wanted" list of dream machines. I'm sure we can all appreciate that, just like we can appreciate that I'm not holding my breath. I'm not a stickler on color, just as long as they match each other. I think out of all the machines, these are the "winners" that I don't own in my book. 1) 1962 Kenmore 70 series washer in white to match my dryer. 2) 1956-1957 Kenmore set 3) 1959 Westinghouse L-1000 and D-1000 (I'm not holding my breath). 4) 1955-1963ish Tappan Microwave (or it's rebadged versions) 5) Early 60's Kitchen Aide Superba 14 series... I'd love a portable, but built in would be ok. Anyone else care to add their dream machines? |

My folks had a 1960 home with a PINK Ge pullout dishwasher and a PINK GE wall oven WITH ROTISSERRIE, oh would those 2 things bring back memories. And your 1962 Kenmore washer in the first picture----Mom washed my 2 kid brother's diapers in that very model, and I was old enough to remember H stood for HOT, W for warm, since I was SO much older than the diaper boys and I was learning the alphabet!
And while I love Frigidaire 1-18's, a 60's Rollermatic model would be very cool. |

I should also add a Maytag 806/808 set. I may have one of those coming, but we'll see!

This aw.org place is unhealthy. Here's another pair I've never seen(nor probably will). Good grief..did the USA actually make machines like this? I thought the Kenmore LK set in pink were gorgeous, as well.
The stars are receding ever so slowly..but these machines are like shooting stars. Too bad there's not a Renaissance in design to bring the beauty back. But..that would break all the analytic rules, I guess. Thanks for posting the photos - I'll know what to keep if I see them myself. LOL. Nah.

Hey everyone, it's been a while. I got the D-1000, thanks to Brainard. Still looking for the rest.
Now I've got two more Westy dryers (1958) to find washers to mate with. Add a L-110 and/or L-112... I'd be willing to combine the two dryers into one or mate them both. I could recreate a westy showroom! |

That looks like a pair of 1958 Westinghouse W-1000 and D-1000 machines? I know because a late friend had that same pair 20 years ago. Both were in use but I remember the washer had a bad escapement he said and when he found a NOS one he was too cheap to pay the $100.00 for it. Not sure what happened to them after he died. He was an appliance service tech for 40 years and got them from the original owner. I ended up getting a mint 1962 A101 at the estate sale and didnt think to inquire about the Westys. Prob scrapped.

John - that photo came from a search I did, but it's actually(as mentioned above) one of many goodies Combo52 has in his collection. Page to see more of these if you're interested: Could these be the same set owned by your friend who didn't want to spend $100 on a NOS part?

If these came from CT years ago they prob are the same ones. My friend passed in 1999 so these went to a dealer that buys estates then either sold or scrapped. My friend had several old washers including Easy, Locomotive, and a 2 tub Westinghouse from the 30's and a Westy L-4-48 so hopefully they knew these late 50's ones were collectable also even though they were his dailys. I think the tub on the washer or dryer was brazed where it mounted because it broke or cracked. Ive never heard of any others.
Oh yeah, I remember to turn the panel light on you held in the "W" badge in front a few seconds LOL |

Let's see.
John (oldskool)- I found a pair of gold panel 806's in avocado (forgot to mention), but if you were closer I'd recommend you to my friend Evan, he's been lusting over mine. john (robbinsandmyers)- That would be so sad if they got scrapped. Personally I think they are the most beautiful set of laundry machines ever made. Jerry- I actually am just about to start the D-1000. It's going to be my February project. I got distracted with the 54-ish Blackstone pair I found. As sometimes we need to temper our dreams, I think I may have to steal some parts off the 58 Custom Imperial (they share the same timer controls) and I think between the two I can make one. I'm starting to debate selling the '62 Kenmore dryer and whatever is left of the 58 Westy dryers when I finish with the D-1000... Limiting my list to a L-1000, the Tappan microwave, A Blackstone mangle to match my washer and dryer and the KDS-14 series (portable or built in) might be the best for my budget and my room. Hmm... I may have to make a revised dream list thread after I get through with the D-1000. |
