Check out the new consumer reports on washers and dryers. Although they do not rate Speed Queen in the list of machines they tested, either front or top load machines, they do rate reliability for the Speed Queen top load agitator machine. It comes out on top, ahead of all other machines both front and top loading. No surprise to most "in the know". They have a 10% rate of agitator machines needing service within the first 5 years, which is about 4 points lower than the next lowest machine.

And I will soon be the owner of a top-loading SQ. I'm moving to an apartment in a few weeks and the Maytags are being sold with the house. They won't fit in the space allotted at the new place and I'm concerned that the washer would shake on the wooden floor. It will be a big change for me, considering front-loaders have been the daily driver for me since the mid-1980s. However, if I'm to own a top-loader as an only washer it's going to be a SQ. While I think HE front-loaders are the gold standard, I'm old-school enough to want a traditional top-load machine.

Ur gonna be going back to TL after FL with heaters all these years. I agree with you though, as much as I love the FL with heaters, if I had to have a TL again, it would def be a SQ.

Not tested

Not surprised, that would wake up to many people. But at least they mentioned of reliability. I hope one day Whirlpool goes back to making long life machines. It would do this nation (and the environment) much good.

Top- and front-loading Speed Queens were tested last season and both formats appear in their ratings lists.
