Thanks. First LG I've seen in action. I'm surprised you can see the recirulating stream.

Re: Interesting Difference:

Hi! Jeff, this is different than my LG Compact Combo Unit. Mine doesn't have the Recirculating Stream as yours does.

"BTW" maybe I've missed something here for a while, but are you related to John, or are your last names just by chance the same even though isn't that real common?

I sell many of these and get nothing but positive feedback from the customers. They do a great job and have cycles that are so effective on getting clothes clean using less of everything and extreamly gentle washing. Most of my customers set the cycles for evening and the clothes are ready when they wake up.One of them had a dream about their's becoming a giant monster and stealing clothes from everybody it saw.lots of screaming and nudity! But good clean clothes afterwords!! LOL

Very Cool Jeff,
When it is in the dry mode, does it tumble in one direction? Or reverse tumble like the wash?
Brent

Re: Hi! Brent:

Both of the Combos {Large Capacity and Compact Smaller Capacity} Reverse Tumble. I've got the Compact Model and "Peteski50" has the Larger Capacity Model.

I've very happy with mine, except for the Capacity. I bought it about 4-1/2 years ago and a short time later, the Large Capacity was available. I should have told my Salesman Friend at Fry's Electronics that I wanted to trade the Compact in for the Large Model, but I didn't so I'm just having to allow for the movement for Drying and not Overload it for a full Cycle of Wash/Dry.

I did have a need for a Repair, because the Cycle Selection Push-Buttons weren't operating for the Options. As it turned out, the Controller Board had come loose from the Front Control Panel. There are some Tabs on the Controller Board that go into Slots on the back side of the Control Panel, that must have not gotten locked into place properly when the Combo was being put together, so the Controller Board pulled away from the Control Panel, causing the Cycle Selections to ability to not be selected.

Fortunately, I had a pretty good outfit for the Service Center and a trusting Repair Tech. I told him what I thought was wrong {controller board possibly going out} so he Ordered both the Controller Board and the Control Panel, just in case they both needed to be replaced and not having to come out to see what was wrong, go back to order the Parts and make a return trip for the actual Repairs. He told me that they would just return the Parts to the LG Parts Department, since they weren't opened.

Alternately, due to the rather long length of time that these take for a full Cycle of Wash/Dry/Cool-Down I've placed a Compact Kenmore Dryer on top of my Combo, so I Wash a lot of Laundry in the Combo and Dry them in the Compact Dryer, which "BTW" runs on 110-Volt, but it does seem to be one of the best for a fairly quick Drying of even a heavier Load of Laundry.

Peace and Fun Laundry Cleaning Times, Steve

I like my LG combo but am not happy with the service. Their is also a lack of service people in my area in New York believe it or not. Some business don't want to bother with LG because of poor service and that they refuse to keep parts stocked. I hope that will change for the better.

Lazy Tumblers?

mrb627's profile picture
Peter,

I am searching for a non-lazy tumbler. Do you have any suggestions? Is the laziness related to the inclined wash tub? Are the true horizontal tubs going to be a more agressive (splashy) wash? What are your thoughts??

Malcolm,

From what I've seen of the videos of the larger American washers, it seems that European washers tumble more vigorously. My Miele for certain does, and only pauses for a second if that before reversing.

Oooops...

How rude of me... I forgot to compliment your videos Jeff. I have to say my favourite in your little video collection has to be the Philco-Bendix - very splashy!

Any chance of spin videos of each machine?

Take care,

Jon

Jon,

Thanks for the information. I had an Asko set W660 and wasn't thrilled to death with them. Although, I don't have any experiance with the Miele. I have read that Miele is going to release a larger capacity machine in the US soon. Right now, I am kind of leaning towards the Speed Queen FL. It is built like a tank.

Need to dry...

Of course you save space having a combo (=lavasciuga), and you save time not unloading washer/loading dryer... Don't know if you save energy, running a separate dryer I think is cheaper than running a combo drying...parcitularly if in your combo you cannot dry the entire washed laundry.

If you add the consume (KWh) of the dryer and the washer, you get a result different from that one of the combos, but it refers to the entire cycle, why the combo consume referes to the WASH AND DRY cycle wich is HALF LOAD!!!

Here is VERY recent (2005) the Candy Alisè 5+5 (Kg), which can wash and dry the entire full load at once, the only that has the same drying capacity as the drying one (really wrinkless laundry?!?!? I'm scettic...). No combos I know can do that...the standard is 5w-2.5d, or some other as 6w-3d (Zoppas), 7w-3.5d (Hoover), 6w-4d (Indesit)...drying capacity is always less than washing one.

Thus, to take the best advantages of a combos I think that you should to be able to wash and dry the same maximum capacity, dont' know about the LG combos, but I think the drum is quite big enoough to do that...

Remeber then, that generally combos run condesing WATER COOLING dry system, different from any othe condensing dry system of a condensing dryer which is AIR cooling, that's why a combo uses such awful amount of water to run...

However, what a beautiful confort of the modernity to put the dirty laundry in a "box" after dinner and wake up in the morning with all washed and dried :-)))

GoodBye
Diomede
