Hello, hope all is well with everyone. On Thursday, Hans Craig sent me a Craigslist ad with a Poppy Red Frigidaire 1-18 set. I called the seller and made arrangements to go and look at them. Yesterday, I went out after work. The set was about an hour from my house, in Mocksville, NC. The house was built in 1917 and the house had sat empty for 20 years. The house didn't even have laundry connections! The seller said they were never used, I can believe that. They have all the original paperwork, sadly a mouse chewed up some of them. I ended up paying $60 for them, money well spend. They are a bit dusty, but no noticeable wear or use. There is a scuff on the side of the washer from him moving them. The set is from 1976.
Hope you guys enjoy,
-Tyler

To find a pair in that color is rare but totally unused is a tremendous find. The appliance gods were shining down on you. Enjoy them. Love the graphics on the literature. Very typical of the time period.

This is a real beautiful set almost an exact match to my Aunt 1/18 set she bought in 1974! Except she dad a separate water temp control for the rinse temp and she had a gas version dryer with a automatic cycle! She had he basement wall painted Poppy to match the set!
Best Of Luck with them!

My own version of that machine is one of my daily drivers. Wonderful for washing bulky things like bathmats, shower curtains, bathtub/shower rubber mats and stuff. Spins pretty good too; not a true Rapid Dry, but better than almost all other American machines of that time period.

Always disappointed a little by the dryers. They worked well but I never understood why they didn't put electronic sensors or lighted drums in their dryers. I think some of the very top TOL 's had a light but I don't remember an electronic dryness sensor. Liked the triangular drum vanes, large convenient portals and lint filters.

I was informed some time ago that they DID make electronic sensors for some of them and I already knew that they made lighted drums by the one I had. I was disappointed in them too, but mostly because they had drum roller issues and lint build up and air movement problems along with the plastic housing for the lint filter tended to warp rather badly on some models.

but still no suds saver model. Congratulations Tyler. The serial number indicates a 1972 model. Great find! I use a 1973 set as my daily driver. I'm still wanting to buy a WEG/DEEG set from 1979. Can't beat them.

Everyone for the kind words, looking forward to getting the beauties hooked up. I took a picture of the underside of the machines, they are extremely clean.

I knew

Tyler would want them..I would have liked them if they had been white, red wouldn't work in my turquoise kitchen, my main goal now is to get rid of this D$%^ Maytag, I have learned my lesson, never again will a Maytag cross my door!!!!!The miserable thing got out of balance, as it does about every other load, and before I could get to it it tore a big hole in the vinyl floor!!!ARHHHHHH.

Unbalamced Maytag

What model Maytag is that? Not the 806 referred to in your profile? They have a reputation for robustness and dependability...

Congratulations on your find! It is hard to believe there are machines like that left that were 'never used'. This set in my opinion is one of the nicest looking machines, my aunt had one in harvest gold and I thought it was a really sharp looking machine. When it washed it was very noisy though, heard it through the whole house! I only wish they made machines that were as good looking today, and offered COLOR again on many models as they used to. Looking forward to hearing about them when you put them into service1

Wash-rinse temperatures

It's interesting how the wash-rinse temperature selector doesn't include a cold water option. Was this typical on Frigidaires of the era?

Rob, yes  I have seen several models like this.  the warm wash/warm rinse was eventually removed and cold/cold replaced it so the 4 options were h/w, h/c, w/c, c/c.  This was applicable for models with just the one water temp knob.  Now for the model with the separate wash & rinse temperatures, that was a different story.
