My kitchenaid kuds25shbt1 dishwasher which is nearly 20 years old whirlpool made sprays after I open the door. Why does this happen and can it be repaired. I am the original owner and really like the machine.

Most likely

Cause is a microswitch stuck on or a sensor isn't reacting to the door's position correctly.
.more likely a physical switch as the logic would catch a sensor error.
Not hard to fix or diagnose if it is the microswitch.

Sounds like a stuck door switch.

Maybe some schmutz got built up in the switch or it corroded over the years.

Check the upper right hand corner of the door. That's where they usually are. Take a toothpick, push it a few times and see if it clicks.

Is it really running with the door open or are you opening the door too fast and just getting sprayed a little as you open it.

If it is really running with the door open you have a bad door switch.

I would get the new Kitchenaid that has a glass insert and you can watch it as it cleans! I wish it had been available when I purchased mine 4 years ago....

A new Kitchen Aid

in stainless will set you back about $850. The window model is extra.

I am considering purchasing a new Kitchenaid but I will see if I can clean this switch in the mean time. Thank you for all the advice.
