Easy sourced machines from Hotpoint in the late 60's & early 70's, then the Easy Laundry (name) seems to have emigrated to Mexico. Hotpoint had a spiral agitator before this sourcing agreement with the advent of the Fountain Filter. I prefer the older, straight-vane agitator in my 64 Hotpoint washer but others like the spiral. I don't have the gasket needed for the filter's pumping action, but I'm sure I would get more excited about it if I did. |

Thank you to all and thanks to Chestermikeuk for the link! I first saw that machine, or a facsimile, in a friend's very swanky Cadogan Square flat in 1978! I wasn't bold enough to open the lid and take a full peek but I remember remarking that it was a Hotpoint and it looked like it had a GE-sort of design inside with the filter-flo rather than the US Hotpoint filtration. I am curious-- I imagined that my friend's mother bought a top loader because they were originally from the Americas and were used to that configuration. Why do Brits, who have access to some of the best front loaders, buy them?
