Hey everyone!
I'm new to the appliance forums and I'm looking for info on a vintage Fridigaire Deluxe refrigerator.
We inherited this beautiful fridge. The wife's not happy with it but I'd like to get it working and actually use it. Once I plug it in it turns on for a couple of seconds and then shuts off. I'm pretty ignorant to the workings of a fridge but I'm mechanically inclined and hopefully with some help I can get this thing going.
So, can anyone tell me what my next step should be?
I'm assuming it the compressor.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Mike

Most likely the start relay for the compressor isn't working. It tries for a few seconds but since the start winding isn't being energized it just sits with a locked rotor until the bimetal protection device trips. It will try again in a few minutes when the bimetal cools and resets.

The compressor could be shot too, but the start relay is probably more likely and way cheaper/easier to fix!

Agreed that it sounds like a relay problem.  You can get a universal replacement for cheap if you have three leads between the existing relay and the compressor.

Thanks for the info.
Do you have a good source for these parts?

Something like this is what you may need.  Your fridge's compressor likely falls into the 1/4 to 1/3 HP range.
