I agree, it is a little pricey. I just love the policy thing he put below the listing. So hilarious. |

I bet the washers console was replaced. The model number tag is on the bottom, that control panel was later 80s when that color wasn't available? |

I would expect the price for this pair to be closer to $50 than $500. Then again, maybe that's why the seller has the 'make an offer' option on there...
The machine is legit, no console swap. This is a 1981 Kenmore 70 series. My mother bought the same model in December 1982... Ordered white, Sears delivered Almond. This was not a busy sales period for Sears, we were in a recession, and Sears' base prices were way too high (most people did not pay list though). Most people were not buying appliances unless they really had to in this time. Models from the 1981 line were never highly plentiful, not as compared to the 1983 models anyway. In the mid-90s when resales/rebuilding of 1980s belt drives was at a fever pitch, we saw five to one I would guess in 1983 models to the 1981 models. There were only a few 1982 models and they are not plentiful either. Sears seems to have sold more lower MOL stuff in this time like the 50 and 60 series models. This model was available in Avocado, and also in Coffee and Golden Wheat. The machine is stunning in Coffee, the others, not so much... Avocado was rare by this time for sure. I had the follow-on 1983 model, 110.82372400 in Avocado that was built Spring 1983, I sold it in 1993 with a brand new outer tub installed. I think this 1981 model was in production summer 1981, to early Spring 1983. The model/serial tag moved to the cabinet lower left front in 1976, and stayed there until 1983 when they moved to the lid well. Dryer is a 1972 Kenmore 700. GREAT dryer. Great washer too actually, but over-priced at $500. Gordon |
