Too much metal on that thing to be a repro!

Absolutely vintage. Years back, I stayed in one of those old cabin-style motels on the side of a road in NY...this is what was in the room. Probably late 30s or early 40s. Pics for archives:

Ken~I am thinking it was either outside Buffalo or somewhere in the Finger Lakes region....well over 25 years back. I just remember that fridge and what a time warp that little hotel felt like at the time.

Produced some interesting and space saving appliances back in the day.

One must recall that back in the 1940's (when many of GACC's kitchen appliances seem to have been marketed) there was a housing shortage, something that persisted in the USA really until the post war boom sparked a burst of construction.

As such a room or apartment was where you found it; often could be a boarding house or perhaps a room or series of same in private home that had been converted into an apartment or apartments. These small fridges and other "space saving" appliances helped fit out everything from cold water flats to small "rooms".

Of course the other use of such "compact" appliances in the 1940's and 1950's was same as today; garages converted to an office or "man cave" (like George Burn's over garage office), or maybe a basement turned into a rec room. Many executives and other places of work had small fridges as well.
