This looks like a rebadged Norge timeline to me. Curiously, I was watching an old episode of Adventures Of Superman with George Reeves the other day and this very same washer and dryer was in the episode. They were in the basement of Jimmy Olsen's apartment wheee he had a chemistry lab set up. The episode was filmed in 1958 but this pair seems to be 3 or 4 years older.

The ad is somewhat misleading in talking about how long Hamilton had been making laundry equipment when it was only dryers that they began making in the late 30s, not washers.

My Mom had this exact Hamilton washer. It was her second automatic, replacing the Bendix Economat. And yes, it was like a Norge Timeline, and I believe that Norge built these washers for Hamilton.

Was your mother happy with it?

to the extent that it lasted I guess she was happy with it, but it broke down after about two years, and it must have been not worth repairing, because they replaced it with a GE FF in 1959. I did love to play with the sliding control knob on the Hamilton though.

Hamilton's claim to fame was automatic clothes dryers. They even made them for other companies such as Frigidaire and GE at the beginning of the automatic washer/dryer race after WWII. They made a very fine dryer and were having Norge make matching washers for them at this time. BTW, I saw that episode of Superman too, with the Hamilton set. The washers of this vintage until the early 60's had the same pitfalls that all Norge washers did and although they did a very good job of washing, rinsing and spinning, they were not very dependable for long periods of time. In the early to mid 60's they started having Blackstone make washers for them until their demise in the early 70's. Strangely, I did notice an examination table in a doctor's office that was made by Hamilton too. The reason I am sure it was the same company is because the chrome lettering on the table was exactly the same as the Hamilton chrome lettering on their washers and dryers. I have had more than a couple of Hamilton dryers, both electric and gas and one of the Norge style washers. I worked on one of the last models of washer with the perforated tub that appeared to be made by Blackstone too.

I saw that SUPERMAN episode, too...

Good eyes to see those washers and dryers in the laundry room of Jimmy Olsen's apartment, better than I could; I could have seen RCA Whirlpool's w/ the "control box" controls, the way they were set back in the background... (& I even thought that I HAD!!!!)
