The dryer I saw that matched a 1954 model, the washer with the small back console and two knobs, was a condenser dryer that hooked up to the cold water line and drain. |

Yes. There is a beautiful set of flat-tops in "The Museum". The dryers I remember as condenser dryers. |

I had an AMP/60W set for a short while and sold them to a long-time member of the board.
www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/T... The 60W was the first Maytag dryer produced (in 1953) and was a condensing dryer that utilized a water valve and pump to circulate the water for the condensing process. Shortly afterwards Maytag came out with a standard air blown electric (60C) and gas (70C) dryer that Matched the look of the A2MP/A3MP, but the 60W was the only dryer to have the matching "Maytag" emblem on the front and knob/timer dials. And, someone else found an A2MP and the 60W dryer in a basement a few years ago. Pretty cool! www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/T... Ben |

We have a pair of these at the museum the dryer is the condensing electric, as Ben said when they change the emblem in the knobs from white plastic to metal they also had gas and vented electric versions with the flat top.
As far as how well the original condensing dryer works I don't know I've never tried to run mine and I've never known anybody that use the original style , I did hear that Maytag out a lot of fires with him though if they weren't maintained properly |
