It's the free one I got months back off the neighbors curb.. about 11 years old,  made in Germany.. Couldn't find my origin post.. Anyways I have a question to anyone who has one.. Mark?

I few times I've noticed that using the regular cycle which is 40 minutes total that the machine keeps adding water occasionally during the washing portion which is 10 minutes.. In fact just the other day with a smallish to medium sized load on the 10th minute it added about , guessing, 1/2 to 1 gallon of water,, and as soon as the water shut off within 20 seconds it started to drain and go into the spin cycle heading to the rinse..  Why would it be adding water so late in the wash cycle?   I've also noticed a few times that some stains were left on clothing that should have been removed.. I still think the machine isn't adding enough water and it's just tumbling around wet clothes..

Are you talking about the cool-down period, when the machine introduces enough water to bring it from 130+F down to warm?

mine does the same thing - 40 min total cycle, wash cycle pretty short and at the end adds more water to cool down, then immediately drain. I hardly EVER use this cycle. The same thing happens in the sanitary cycle. It adds more water at the very end, then drains.

The cool down on Sanitary is for safety purposes to avoid consumer exposure to very hot water if the machine drains into a laundry tub or sink.

Normal(/Casual) is presumably a Perm Press-type of cool down.

My Miele has this as an optional setting to temper the hot water down "if it's draining into old pipes, plastic plumbing, or if required by code".  But it's only used on the super hot cycles.

RARELY use NormalCasual as it uses the least amount of water.  I suggest using Whites cycle and change hot wash water tempt to what you need for the cycle as well as eliminate extra rinse if you so choose.

my Neptunes do that.....but I think its more of the Stain cleaning abilities of a FL machine.....

first, enough water to saturate clothing and distribute detergent....almost a pre-treatment of a highly concentrated detergent lather, about 2 times through the wash part, at 5 minute intervals, it adds a bit more water, which starts to break the dirt/suds from the clothing and transfer it to the water to be held in suspension until drain portion flushes it away, also taking a greater part of the suds with it....

as some machines will add bleach during the last minutes of wash, this one adds it during the first rinse, after a short spin interval, using cold water...

may seem odd to view this, but is very effective at stain removal...

Thanks Mark.. I guess it's doing what it's supposed to do..  I'll start using the Heavy Duty setting I think.

I've been using Tide breeze clean and/or Persil Pro Clean

The Duet only uses a small amount of water, even less than a Neptune IIRC. When you choose warm as the temperature, the water in the machine will be near cold, because the water comes into a cold machine. You may get away with using hot water for a warm wash, it also depends on to what temperature your water heater is set.
