I remember this advertisment from the 80s! While I have never loaded a 2800 model I loaded quite a few GE designs MOL and BOL models. I dont dispute you can fully load all those dishes and etc, etc in the GE! I was always disappointed they didnt continue with the Potscrubber2 design but that is beside the point! My point is all that dinnerware and cookware can be loaded in the other 4 competitor models if you know how to load a dishwasher. I was fortunate enough to have used all those 4 competitor models at different times and I never had a problem loading. In fact even though I consider myself a good loader - I still think the GE was the hardest of the 5 models especially the way they had the location of the popup tower! But even with the Kenmore D&M lack of height I still got tall wine glasses in by laying them halfway down and with the broiler pan I loaded on the far left and the upper arm still turned. The KitchenAid I loaded many times and that definatly was No problem - compared to the diagram I would drop the right side of the top rack and it held tall wine glasses. You can place the thin part of the broiler pan on the bottom right! The way the upper rack was was configured it wouldnt get in the way! The thicker part of the broiler pan can be placed along the back bottom! As for the Whirlpool I had a portable power clean and I placed the wine glasses half way down much the way I loaded the kenmore D&M! I didnt have the adjustable upper rack so it was harder but can be done! A friend of mine had a close to TOL model and it was easier to load stemware in! The broiler pan was no problem going in the bottom rack! The central tower didnt get in the way of loading any type of load! I didnt mind the silverware basket in the door as long as you loaded the plates in the front the silverware cleaned well at least for me! As for the Maytag that was a real different animal. I knew a few people that had them but only one friend had a basic wu300 I loaded many times. At first she moved to this condo that had one and was so confused trying to load it! I picked up quickly and she had large heavy dinnerware with lots of serving dishes. She was used to a MOL D&M kenmore but once she got used to the maytag she liked it so much better! Putting tall wine glasses was no problem and loading all kinds of large serving dishes and cookware went in with ease! The only negative to the matag was it was the noisest! To me these were all good dishwashers! Maybe the D&M was a notch lower because of no filter!
I was wondering if more of you guys want to put your openions in. I was Lucky enough to do BOB loads in all these machines!
Thanks for listening,
Peter

I've never loaded a D&M, but KA, Maytag, WP, and GE I have. The last three extensively. Im currently using a RR as a daily driver, and, well, it can hold A LOT. If you learn the secrets of SuperRacks, they will pay in dividends I found. I wish my WP Powerclean upper racks were designed a little different as they have a hard time holding a lot of cups, but the bottom rack is cavernous.

I have only had one experience with loading a dishwasher and that is my current WP portable quiet partner. I can cram a lot into the bottom rack even with the tower and get everything clean on the normal cycle with hi-temp wash in roughly 1 1/2 hours and have cleaned and dry dishes.

The top rack is shallow though but i can get some smaller odd shaped things in there. I am spoiled by this machine. I have never prerinsed from the day I got it in October of 1990. The loudest part of this machine is the water hitting the porcelain tub walls. Very powerful.

It hardly gets any use now as there are only 2 of us and I wash up as I go. Come the Thanksgiving and Christmas season though this machine will get a workout.

GE Model 2800

I had this model and it washed very well. I bought it as a floor sample for around $300.00. It lasted for a while then the control panel went dead.

I recognize Competitor #3 (KitchenAid).

Is #1 Whirlpool; #2 Kenmore; #4 Maytag?

Sincerely,
Embarrassed That I'm Not Sure

GSD2800 Super Racks BULL

Yes the top rack is nice, But the lower rack holds about nothing in the way of lots of dishes.

The thing that the GE DW holds that the others don't is the GE broiler pan, well I seldom broil 20 hamburgers, so I have a smaller broiler pan that only holds 6 hamburgers.

If you look at the loaded GE DW it only has a few dinner plates, well I usually have anywhere from 6-12 dinner plates in a load, when I had a GE DW like the one in the ad it would only hold about 7 dinner plates.

I think that you could select a load of dishes for any DW that would fit in it but not fit most other DWs.

I agree with John - it is bull - I was able to put a broiler pan of the same size in both the kitchenaid and whirlpool - plus I bet it would still fit in the RR maytag! I attached from the 2800 manual suggested loading - with the popup tower you can see how much space you loose. Does anyone have Bob load experience with a GE?

notice how the whirlpool will still let you load a broiler pan on the left side and still let you get a lot of dishes in even with a tower! no loading hassel!

What Definitely helped WP was putting that silverware basket on the door to get more space on the bottom rack despite a tower. I always thought that was a clever idea that WP did that.

The problem I experienced with WP's flat-ware location on the door is that it doesn't get spray from one whole side. May not make much difference with a light load-----however, if that flat-ware basket is full it does effect the overall cleanliness of the flat-ware.

I'm not sure I ever met a dishwasher I couldn't cram full. I've met plenty of them that could not clean a crammed-full load.
I have a very early RR Maytag I used as a daily-driver when I lived in Atlanta. It would not hold one of my favorite large pots. That same pot would fit in a KAid and still leave just enough clearance for the upper spray-arm to move. A minor annoyance.

I had a basic GE gsd500 when I lived in a apartment in the 80s. Even though the pop up tower annoyed me - I was able to pack it full with good results. Mine didn't have a filter it was bol! so I needed to remove extra scraps or they would redeposit back on the dishes! The one thing I did like better about the GE over WP was all models were 120 degree water temp enabled! Both GE and kitchenaid in the 80s had that capability where WP didn't unless you had the upper end models! On the RR maytags you needed 140 degree until later on when they put a temp boost on their upper end models!

GE Racks ARE BULL!

Someone asked for BobLoad certified experience in a GE!? Here I am!

I agree 100% with John. The kink in the upper rack allows for large dinner plates to be loaded on that side and that side only unfortunately. You could load large plates on the opposite side, but you run the risk of cutting off or minimizing water flow to the upper rack. I can only fit seven plates on the right hand side where the upper rack kink is. The door does have an indent where the bottom rack fits in to, allowing for double row loading of large plates, BUT, in one of the photos you can see, the right forward most position cannot fit a large plate. IF I HAVE to, I usually load large plates on the left most position and thats it, leaving only one or two positions for large plates.

After switching to the WP PowerClean system after GE, that rack set up is total open season, it doesnt matter where anything goes, there is so much space even with the utensil holder on the bottom rack.

Theyre not the best capacity wise, but GEs will deliver space wise, but you really have to work it. You have to experiment. If you can load a GE properly, you can load anything.

i've used a countertop dishwasher (Electrolux), exactly the same design as Haier, Magic Chef, SPT, Danby, whatever OEM brand here in the US)
And until today I am shocked with the huge loads those "microwave oven style tiny things" can handle.

For their size, they should be called T.A.R.D.I.S.

Hey Pete, these are the two upper rack photos that accompany the bottom racks. Unfortunately I don't have anymore.

Somebody texted me today and asked me to post pictures of my Electrolux countertop dishwasher I mentioned above.

As I was silly enough to forget taking pictures of my appliances, Here i have a video of a review I've made for a dishwasher cleaner (excellent product by the way) using the ELectrolux LE06A dishwasher.

After I moved to the US, Electrolux released a new model, with two racks.

TLA is negotiating with the manufacturer to bring them to the USA.

my dishwasher

My Frigidaire MOL dishwasher died a year ago. It's actually still under maintenance; the stupid electronics went south. I just didn't have the desire to have it fixed.

I had an awful KA TOL before that that died within 3 years.

I'm probably going to put in a Bosch because I just don't see any 'American' brands that appear of sufficient. CR finds the repair rate for Bosch to be roughly half of every other brand. I hate service calls, just hate them.

Matt that space to the right of the sink looks perfect to install a DW!
John the Bosch seems to be #1 right now! The thing I hate about all these new machines is the time they take to run! That's why I prefer the more vintage models!

I would love to put one there, but storage space in the kitchen is at a premium. A portable would be much more practical for this place.

to 'peteski50'

My first d/w was bought in 1977 when I was in college. It was a GE, one of those with the interchangeable front panels. I used to switch mine every month or so just because it gave a new look to the kitchen. No service calls ever, it was still in that house when I sold it in the early 80's.

The next two homes had Hobart/KA Superbas. I loved them. I'd love to have one now. Who knew the damn government wouldn't let us wash with water?

I'm still on the fence over the Bosch. I'd rather buy from a local dealer, but I don't have one locally. Just Lowe's. I've had awful luck with Lowe's local service contractor.

According to John L. Maytag seems the way to go.

My Dad has one in his house in Florida and it leans great

all these new dishwashers don't come near to the performance and cycle time saving of the older machines! as for the newer ones the Maytag is one of the best and I sell a lot of them at home depot! as for the Bosch I don't sell them but on these newer models that have been the running for the past 4 years I hear and read mostly good things about them! My friend Rayjay on the club has one now for nealy 2 years and always raves about it! I even saw him do Bob loads in it and it cleans beautifully and loads nice and the cycle time is somewhat shorter than some others!
If I had to buy a new DW now I would check the cycle times and pick the ones with the shortest time as well as the best performance! stay away from LG, samsung and Frigidaire!

I'll put in a good word for the Whirlpool WDF130. $379.00 MSRP. It's a very basic machine with three cycles (Heavy, Normal, 1-Hr). The only options are Heated Wash (but only to 120 degrees), Heated Dry and 4-Hr. Delay Start. Cleans like a champ even on the 1-Hr cycle. Both racks are washed simultaneously. No fold-down tines or adjustable racks.

Eddie (ea56) has one and gives it high marks, as well. It probably isn't deserving of 'Hurricane In A Box' status, but it definitely falls within the designation of 'Severe Thunderstorm With High Winds.' BobLoad it to your heart's content. Everything will emerge clean.

Food For Thought:

1. I have the portable version and it is LOUD. Undercounter installation may dampen the racket. Naturally, it's a bit less raucous when fully loaded. If you run half-loads (as I do sometimes) sounds like the fire department is washing the sides of a pole barn. Fortunately, you'll rarely need to use anything but the 1-Hr. cycle. Note: Heated Wash option not available on this cycle.

2. Not great at drying, even when the brief Heated Dry option is selected.

3. Others have complained about tine placement on the upper rack (especially for glassware and cups). I've had no problem adapting to it.
