I've had a Maytag Neptune 7500 set since about 2000.
A few years ago the touch screen on the dryer started acting up. It would stop responding to touch. It would still run OK on whatever setting it was last used on. If I turned it off, over night, it would regain normal control and work OK for some weeks. Then, after a month or two, it would start acting up again. At first when this happened I took the control panel off, disconnected the ribbon cable, etc., couldn't see any issues, and when I put it back together it would start working again, but would act up a few weeks or months later. After a while I just started unplugging the machine and it would work ok after a night off. Not the most convenient solution, but at least it worked on some setting in the meantime. It happened again today, and I'm wondering, short of a new touch screen, which are basically not available new, there is some issue I could address myself. Since a night without power seems to fix it, at least temporarily, it seems to be to be a capacitor problem, and when the capacitor drains (or gets charged!) normal touch screen operation resumes. Anyone with advanced electronics repair experience have any ideas? |
