I own a cider mill in upstate New York. We have a Big Boy washer to launder our press cloths. Works great but now I have a couple issues.

1. Washes/spins only in one direction. I need this relay replaced and need help sourcing one.

2. The machine does not shut off at end of cycle. We turn the breaker off.

3. We can open the door while in operation and I know we should not.

Grateful for any help.

I have an interest in old commercial equipment (and household appliances). From what I have heard about these, they originally did not have a door interlock (as did some other commercial/industrial FL machines at the time). After an unfortunate accident involving a lost limb, Troy/Ametek had retrofit kits free of charge to install on the machine. It is possible your machine doesn't have that kit. If it doesn't, I don't know if contacting Ametek will do any good being that these machines are almost 50 years old, but it doesn't hurt to try.

As far as the relay, you might have to find someone else who specializes in that kind of thing. It is possible, I do HVAC and have had to ship out relays for RTUs that were NLA.

They say Ebay has everything, and sometimes it does, but I think you would do better looking at auctions. Maybe one of these come up, and depending on which one of them is in better condition, you can keep one and use the other for parts.

Hopefully someone on here with a bit more knowledge chimes in. Someone on here had one and was (I think) replacing the tub bearing. Perhaps he/she comes across this and can offer advice, if not the few parts you need! It isn't too common that you run across old laundry equipment.

Ametek has been out of business for years. Contactors(relays) can be found but may be of a different style.

Mark all of the wires. Take the contactor to any compatant electric supply house they will find something that will work. Those machines are beasts that are better than anything made today. Good luck.

maybe not that brand, but big machines like that are still sold and in use.....

what you need to do is contact one of these suppliers and/or servicers for repair/parts

one place you might want to check out is Caleco, they are a supply/servicer for commercial laundries across the East Coast.....or at least they might be able to point you in a direction of someone who can....

worth a shot

How many different timers are there

How many different styles of timers did these machines have? Many years ago when I worked in the hospital laundry there was a "BIG BOY" and where the timer is on this machine the hospital read cards similar to the MILNOR or WASHEX washers of the day.
