Was just wondering how I would get a good match for a paint color on an old washing machine. Got an old set and want to repaint the cabinet. I plan on going to an automotive store and seeing about having paint mixed but not sure how to get a perfect match as I will only be painting the sides and front of the washer. The enamel top is still in good shape.

If you have a good smartphone you can download a spectrophotometer and scan the color you have, then it will generate a Pantone code for a matching color.

Of course it won't be 100% match because an app will never be as accurate as a 10k dollar lab instrument, but it will help you getting super close (maybe only 1 shade darker or lighter that is almost unnoticeable)

I guess my uncle just told me that I can take apart to Carquest or O'Reillys and they have a scanner and should be able to get me a pretty good match for the paint.

Try it Jason and see. What do you want to paint? Have had good luck with taking a machine cabinet to a shop that paints cars.

I have a pink Maytag set I'm needing to repaint. Both my uncles rebuild wrecked cars and have all the equipment and knowledge needed to repaint the cabinet. Was just curious as to where people on here who re paint old appliances get their pain't.

Any automotive paint should work. Whoever he uses to purchase paint should be able to match it.

Isn't the enamel going to be an issue?
