Hi,

Wondering if anyone knows whether the GE Model TWD860C1W combo washer/dryer made from 1970ish has a door that latches when shut? Similar to old fashion refrigerators.

If anyone has a Users manual describing it or an actual machine, would love to hear from you.

Thanks!

How do you mean "latches"? No combo that I know used anything but a positive mechanical latch as opposed to a magnetic door closure to hold the door closed since it was a machine that filled, at least partially,  with water,  unlike a dryer, where magnetic closures became one of the  accepted methods of holding the door closed while allowing it to kicked open from the inside if a child became trapped inside.  The Kenmore combo lasted long enough that its last model had a locking pin in the latch that was activated by the start button. It rendered the door locked shut during the cycle.

Thanks Tomturbomatic!

My recollection of these machines were that there was a mechanical release in the door that "latched" the door when closed and was required to depress to open a closed door. Once latched, the door could not be opened.

Model # should be IWD860C1W, this machine is a 1966 model.

And yes it does have a positive door latch, do not get inside and let anyone close the door.
