in cleaning out some closets, I have a bunch of 78's, which I believe should be played on a Victrola.....

there must be 40+ of them......

would anybody be interested in them?

Free for the offering.....just pay postage, but they are heavy....

to name a few:
Nat King Cole
Glenn Miller
Jo Stafford and Gordon MacRae
Art Lund
Harry James and his orchestra
Frankie Carle and his orchestra

on....Capitol, MGM, and Columbia record labels....

I'd be interested in them. How much would shipping be to 85326?

I used to, but I sold my Victrola along with my 40-year record collection nine years ago.  I had stuff from roughly 1900 to the 1950s, mostly 1925 - 1940.

The records you're offering should play fine on anything that has a 78 stylus, but I advise against playing them on an old school phonograph that uses disposable steel needles.   Your records were recorded when electronic players with long life needles had already replaced crank phonographs in the marketplace, and would sound best on that type of system.

Very true Ralph. I have a VV-330 from 1922. Because of the heaviness of the arm, and the steel needle, newer 78's from 1930's and up would be ruined.

I remember reading somewhere long, long ago about Victor's stubborn refusal to eliminate the bonnet top.  I think the VV-330 is an excellent example of this practice.  As stated in the linked site's blurb, cabinets with smooth top styling (presumably from other makers besides Victor) were far more popular.

Still, the VV-330 is an interesting conversation piece, and probably fits better against a wall than its tall, thin cousins.  My VV-XVI took up a lot of room due to clearance needs behind it so the top could be fully tilted back.

Right again Ralph. The humpbacks were never as popular because you really couldn't put anything on them such as a vase or a lamp. Add to that their expense, barring custom models, I believe the VV-330 was the most expensive offering that year. And indeed, you can put them flush against the wall.

The Meissner

There was a series of ads throughout WW II in the National Geographic for a phonograph by Meissner. It was supposed to be produced after the war was over. Apparently it could be programmed to play a 78, then flip it to play the other side, then go to the next in the stack, and so on. Or, it could be programmed to just play the 'A' side on a stack.

I never saw a Meissner phonograph, but I'm not really into that interest. Did they ever make the Meissner, or was it just touted in wartime and never came to fruition? It wasn't just one ad back then, but a bunch.

I have about 3 dozen of my parents old 78"s and I still have the Micromatic Magnavox but cant be bothered to listen to them any more. Doggie in the window always made me wanting a puppy that never changed with the 6th shelter dog. Max, my newest rescue dog that spent most of his life in a crate. He never will again.

Like Children,

I've never understood why people would take on pets when they don't have to. As a Catholic, I believe that God remembers those who care for His animals. Thank you-

Disposable pets....

one example as my brother got his daughter a bunny for Easter.....two weeks later, she lost interest and he was set to release it out into the woods or take it to a shelter....

Oh, HELL NO!.....you adopted that pet, you take care of it for life, and she is to take care of it like it was a family pet....

you can't do stuff like that with me around, or that I know about it....

yes, I got chicks and ducklings for our kids during Easter.....but as they got bigger, they went out into the yard with the rest of the animals....

I could never kill or eat my own animals, too much personality to hurt any one of them....
