The time has come to find the illusive Maytag DE-806 dryer. I have been downsizing and currently have my faithful Whirlpool portable dryer in service. All the other dryers are gone. As much as I LOVE vintage machines, the reality of living on the 19th floor is becoming way too obvious. So everything is being trimmed down to 2 washers and one full size 220V dryer. So how about it? Any leads on a decent, white DE-806 dryer? Thanks in advance.

Louie, full size would exclude dryers with the HOH design.  You'll probably want the "big door" or "stream of heat" type that can hold more.

Ill keep a lookout for one here, which gives you the perfect reason to come out for a visit to pick it up!

I plan to retire the A-107 Ralph as soon as I find a 806 washer. So I thought the DE 806 would be it's match.

Louie, yes, if you're going to be pairing it with an A-806, a HOH dryer will be fine.  I can't speak for electric, but the DG-806 we had was the fastest, quietest, user-friendliest, all time best dryer I've ever owned.

It would have to be electric. No gas connection for a dryer.

Ralph, I am a bit confused. Isn't the DE-806 an HOH dryer?

Yes, HOH dryers were produced in both DE and DG 806 models, intended of course to be paired with the 806 washer, but fit fine with a 106 or anything in between.  Our DG 806 was paired with an HA 207 washer.  They were in the garage, so the mismatched colors didn't matter.

I was sharing my own experience with a gas model (blue panel) above.  I hope the electrics from that same period perform as well as our gas one did.

The experts will have to advise if the model numbers changed on the SOH/big door machines.   I think it's likely that DE 806 = HOH no matter what.

So I presume the dryer has to be located a significant distance from your Caloric, otherwise you could run a flexible supply line for a gas model fairly easily.

I have this dryer. It's the SOH dryer, in white. Worked fine when I got it. let me know if this one works for you.

Thanks for the info Ralph!

The Whirlpool dryer is now located in the kitchen, near the window. I broke through the brick and cinder block exterior wall so I can have a direct vent to the outside (no more lint contraptions, YAY!).  The space by the Caloric (where the A-107 currently resides), is earmarked for the KDS-58. So no gas model dryer for me.

I see a DG806 on letgo that's not too far from you, just outside of Philly. The add says it needs a coil and doesn't heat. I'm having a hard time posting the link from letgo but all you have to do is type in vintage maytag and have your distance set to 10+ miles and it should come up

Louie, the dryer Tazz mentioned sounds like it's a DE 806.  Gas dryers don't have heating coils.

Believe me if it was a gas version I would have have scooped it up, he's only asking $25 for it. On top of that it's a five hour drive for me just to get there, all be it I would drive that just not this time.

Louie, I apologize for not looking at this thread until now.  If I had from the onset, I would have clarified for you immediately it's electric because there was no gas "blue flame" emblem on the face of the control panel as well as the little access door at the bottom right of the front of the dryer.  I hope it works out!!

Just thinking......

if you were to find a , say 606 dryer, I believe I have the console from an 806 dryer, with the blue background. Just a thought.

806 console

Do you by chance have more than one of those consoles, I'm picking up a DG606 this Saturday but my goal is to have a matching set of 806's. I already have an A608 washer that I would also love to find a 806 console for.

I wouldn't give up on that 806 I told you about either. I messaged him again so if he gets back to me I'll definitely let you know.

Once I get my dryer situation set with a gas model installed I will be setting the DE408 that I have and I just put a new heating element in it. I don't know if that would work for you with the 806 console but it's an idea. I don't know exactly where you are but I could get it close to you, I work in Connecticut so...

I'm in Indiana. You could get it to work with a 406, but you would have to figure out how to wire the light.

Adding the 806 Light-up Console

moparwash's profile picture
It's really easy, you just need to get a ballast (around $13, they attach to the cabinet), look at the wiring diagram for the 806 console, and let there be light!!
