I just picked up a GE model APH10AA portable air conditioner (I'm guessing it's +/-ten years old from what I've read on line) for free off CL.   In the days leading up to this past Labor Day weekend's record breaking and relentless heatwave, these types of A/C units were disappearing from CL almost as fast as they were posted, but I managed to secure a 12K BTU "Royal Sovereign" for $200 to cool our bedroom.  It did the job, but it's tough to say whether we slept any better due to the loud racket it made.

I thought a free replacement was worth the gamble.  The GE is much quieter and better looking, and I intend to re-home the RS unit.  The problem with the GE is that none of the LED indicator lights on the panel work.  The only thing that does work is the temperature readout.  As a result, you have to guess if anything is set the way you want it.  For the fan speeds and grille sweep functions, that's easy, but not so much for "cool," "fan," or "dry" selection.

Is there an easy fix for this?  If not, it won't involve a huge curve to learn the settings I want and leave them that way.  It's an OK trade-off for quieter cooling, but if Dave should mess with it, I may have a hard time setting things back to the way they should be.
