Would anyone want to see wash, rinse, spin lights on domestic washers? I have always been drawn to the concept. Basically something identical to this:

Mostly I think these were on commercial machines so people unfamiliar with the operation and maybe who weren't paying 100% attention would know when to add the fabric softener!
My FL Neptune has plenty of lights that indicate what options were selected but sadly only a countdown timer. Of course once familiar with the cycles and machine operation, you only need to glance at the selected options and remaining time to know what it's doing at any given moment.
Still, if I had designed it, the LED display would have been larger and had enough room to display "Presoak", "Wash", "Rinse #1, etc. Since the machine has automatic dispensers for bleach and fabric softener, it could be argued that this information isn't needed. Wouldn't win me over, but...
Here's a picture of mine running this morning...filling for the second to the last rinse. These options give about a 35 minute wash period (including the presoak) and a "real" warm fill for the first rinse. The fourth and final "warm" rinse just gets a little hot water added to bring it to 80F or so.
Unfortunately the graphics are starting to wear off on the start/pause button!

Or even partially electronically controlled washing machines have count down lights.
I mean long as there is a mechanical timer knob that moves, you don't need lights or whatever as that device serves to indicate what is going on. Old Wascomat, SQ and other commercial/laundromat washing machines had some sort of dial or whatever that moved to indicate cycles. This of course being that they didn't have timers. The modern fully electronically controlled machines do have lights for cycle indication. |

As long as the timer dial is visible to my understanding. GE and Whirlpool commercial machines with coin slid activated timers do have indicator lights.
While technically not useful in timer models, something about having such lights appeals to me.
