After 30 plus years of shaving nearly 7 days a week, I decided as I approached the half century mark to beard out.  3 years ago, dad sent me a rechargeable Norelco unit that I hardly used except to trim around the ears and neck hair.

Well, I can beard out for about 8-9 days, after that, the itch is terrible.  So I tried to use the Norelco unit and it was like pulling teeth sans anesthetic.  Pretty painful and at least a 15 minute ordeal as the poor thing would get hot and almost stop running.

I researched many online, including Andis and the Oster pro.  A co worker who during this time of year resembles a Yeti, told me he had good luck with his Wahl and his sister, who cuts hair for a living, uses them exclusively.  This chap is the spitting image of Grizzly Adams and when he beards out during hunting season,  well.............he's pretty scary.

I attached the link for the color pro unit I got at Target.  It plugs in which is fine because I have an outlet right next to the sink.

And boy does this thing pack the power. I can mow through 10 days of growth and it never skips a beat. I use the 1/16 depth guide and it gives a wonderful even cut with no fuss or anything. The ear guides are also a plus.  I'm sure there are other more powerful units but for what I do, this one does the job. A five year warranty is a big plus. And it is USA assembled with domestic and non union globally sourced components.  It was under $25.

It is a bit bulky compared to the lithium powered units but for me that is a good trade off for superlative cutting power. My beard is akin to barbed wire when it grows out.  I think I could sand wood with it.

Ben, I've had a Wahl Lithium Ion trimmer for between 5 & 6 years.  I absolutely love it and have not had one issue with it.   I think I had a Panasonic brand beard trimmer before that.  It just cannot hold a candle to the Wahl!!

many years ago to give our 2 boys cheap buzz cuts.... well, they are 30 & 35 now and have long since moved away, but SWMBO still uses that very same Wahl to give me a trim every month or so! Great product!

I tried a Wahl (from WM so maybe that's why), it pooped-out in 3 years (when the warranty ended).

Hmmm ... lost track of the time ... have had the beard for 5.5+ years.
