I just posted the April 1960 issue of Appliance Manufacturer to the Ephemera Library. The cover story is on Speed Queens new commercial washer, and shows many interesting other things such as:
Norge changes automatic washers cabinets to zinc clad steel. Packaged laundry centers by Westinghouse and Hotpoint. Including a Westinghouse Laundromat and sink combo built right over the washer. Hotpoint bizarre new drying cabinet. Hotpoint's experimental high laundry controls and automatic bulk bins that dispense detergent, bleach and softener automatically! I'm not sure if any of these came into full production.

That dryer was strange! It seems like it would have to move quickly to keep stuff from lumping up at the bottom. I don't see how it could have been very quiet with all of that segmented apparatus moving. |
