Maytag Performa Ultra Care 2 LAT2500AAE

Hi. I am having problems with my Maytag Performa Ultra Care 2 LAT2500AAE. The agitator moves the same way the tub moves when the tub is in a wash cycle. I can move the agitator clockwise by hand, but not counterclockwise. The motor is hot on the bottom where the transmission connects to it by the belt. The washer won't spin out, and it won't stop filling at the set water level. The transmission does spin, but I don't know if it is supposed to spin faster

The Performa

washers are the late Norge Searcy design after Maytag bought Norge. Parts may be available, ie; motor, belts, and the transmission is non repairable, and if faulty must be replaced.
Maybe you will obtain parts at a reasonable price but given it's age, don't throw good money after bad. If you like vintage washers, buy a refurbished genuine Maytag dependable care washer, or older orbital gear case design Maytag, or belt driven Whirlpool, Kenmore, GE, Speed Queen, or GM Frigidaire etc. or 90's Whirlpool direct drive washer.
We rarely see any Searcy machines here for sale at all. They gave Maytag a bad reputation because of low durability.

LAT2500AAE is a dependable care washer...not a Norgetag or Searcy platform.

Maytag Performa Ultra Care 2 LAT2500AAE

Thank You both for your replies.I'm sorry. It is actually a Maytag Performa LAT2500AAE, Not a Maytag Performa Ultra Care 2 as I wrote before. My washer is not a Norge Searcy washer. Does anyone know what needs to be fixed on my washer to get it working properly again?. I have already seen the new washers that are available now, and they are crap.I am going to buy the parts and fix it myself. Thank You.

I have had a few of the NorgeTag units, Atlantis to be exact, preferred the stainless tub units....and see nothing wrong with them, super capacity units, heavy duty, effective washing and rinsing....pumps were a usual weak spot....with proper care, their really nice machines.....

in any case.....

according to this link, the trans is available as a full replace/repair kit....everything you need in one package...

Hi Jen This is an easy to diagnose washer but it might be tough to fix, and it sounds like you may have several problems so with out videos pictures and more description I am not going to get into guessing what is wrong, If you really want to fix it I would get an experienced repair person to give it a good looking over unless you want get the manual and spend a lot of time learning and experimenting with this machine.

Hi again. The "Parts Store and used appliances" repairman that did come here the other day to fix my washer told me it was my transmission and wasn't worth fixing, and if I gave my washer to him then he could find me a different washer to buy. At the time I didn't know where else he worked. IT turns out he put the same numbered belt on the water pump to the motor that only is supposed to go from the motor to the transmission so that made the water fail to pump out the water, so I changed it to the right belt so now the water stops at the correct water level, and it pumps out the water again. Now I just need any insight into why it isn't agitating. The agitator is fine. I already checked it. Could I Really need a new transmission even though it spins just fine, and the transmission is now spinning fast. Any help would be very appreciated. Thank You, Jen

A new transmission does seem in order. These machines spin the whole transmission with the tub when spinning. The gearbox is not transmitting any movement through the gears during a spin henceforth why the spin cycle still works and agitation doesn't.

During agitation the transmission is held by the tub brake and the internal mechanism is creating the back and forth agitation motion. During spin, the motor goes the opposite direction and the transmission pulley locks with the transmission housing and both the housing and tub rotate in unison. In other words the spin function doesn't rely on the transmission for anything but acting as the driveshaft.

Trans. diagram posted by Yogitunes

is a dependable care transmission. The "Performa" gear case looks rather like a thick saucer disk.

Parts diagrams for LAT2500AAE has the transmission as Yogi pictured. It is a two-belt Maytag, not a Norgetag or Amanatag.
