Hello all,
New guy here. Ordinarily I restore vintage radios and TV sets but I also have a few vintage fridges, a stove and freezer from the 50's. I have one that's been going great in the garage for years, a 50's era Norge.
Anyway... last night I was doing some work out there and at one point needed to move one of the plugs that shares the same outlet as the Norge. I unplugged the Norge and then plugged it into the other outlet. The fridge was running at the time that I did this and I didn't really think much about it.
After I did this I heard a slight buzz and click. This happened a few times and I unplugged the fridge, figuring maybe the compressor had been at head pressure when I unplugged it and the relay was having an issue with trying to restart it. So I let it sit for an hour. Plugging it back in yielded nothing. No clicks or anything.
As I am somewhat electrically inclined I removed the cover off the compressor, removed the connections one by one to the compressor and tested the leads. The motor windings seem to be fine. Next I tested the overload mechanism. It measures something like 5-6 ohms. So I assume that means its fine as well. I had to go to work so I didn't have time to check out the relay but I'm wondering if somehow it fried itself or otherwise failed and that's why the compressor won't start.
Someone on our radio forum suggested I come here as he said there's some of you folks who know a thing or two about these. I am including an image of the back of the compressor too
