No price listed, but certainly an interesting piece. I would go look at it, but I would get stopped for driving a Chevrolet in Upper St. Clair

Maybe not

Upper St. Clair is middle middle class for the south hills, at least to me. Lots of under 50 year old vinyl sided 3 and 4 bedroom colonials and brick ranches. Chevy is not a cheesy car anymore either. At least not am Impala for sure. Upwards of $25 grand for a V6 model, even slightly used.
Homes like those here will set you back around $230-$250 grand. Still just the middle middle.
One nice thing about the Pittsburgh area, along with Indianapolis is, they don't have housing market bubble cycles. Values aren't as high as other cities, but they remain more stable, even when the economy is off kilter, like last decade. There is also a bit of a slower lifestyle pace, and a lower mean average income.
I mean take a look at the photos of the Brooklyn town house here under the GE vintage gold kitchen offered for sale at $1.5 million. That much or less would buy you an all done up to date move in ready one in Mt. Lebanon or Mt. Washington with river and skyline views.

Ohhhh, does that ever look like a money pit.

I should know because we're (so done) living in one with a market value in that same ballpark.

Agreed Jerry,

I didn't mean to come off sounding condescending. Squirrel Hill is in close proximity to Pitt University, Duquesne U., and CMU, the medical center, thus, higher prices. Same with Ann Arbor, and Morgantown W.V.
That is some mansion. The bath shown is fine, classic traditional. the kitchen cabinets can be stripped, stained or painted to update them. I'm sure they are solid wood. New appliances, sinks, counters, lighting, floor and it's done.
The rest looks mainly cosmetic, except the pool liner.
Of course, the heating bills will be outrageous, but if one can afford the home.....

Oh for sure!

Or even me on Halloween.
When I was a young tyke, my grandmother house and baby sat for a family in Squirrel Hill. The parents were in Israel on business. The home wan't quite that caliber, but a very nice Tudor. My dad and I would drive grandma there when she cleaned for them. It was extra money for her in addition to my grandfathers black lung and ss benefit. He was a coal miner. The family was nice and treated grandma well.
The kitchen was Kosher, with two sinks, two sets of cookware, etc., and my grandmother followed their Kosher meal wishes for the baby. He ate a small serving of beef tongue for breakfast each morning, and also liked grandmas pancakes, omlettes, and waffles. She made them Italian dishes like eggplant parmesan, and spaghetti and meatballs with veal and ground round or sirloin rather than pork.
There is a part of Tel Aviv today where some from Pittsburgh live. Maybe the couples adult children even.
When my folks were first married, they lived accross the street from Dr. Jonas Saulk's monkey lab at Pitt. My mom was nurse at eye and ear hospital.
I was born very cross eyed, and an opthamoloigist named Dr Saul did my corrective surgery there also. He had to re work my eye muscle so my eyes wouldn't cross anymore. Can you imagine, with no laser yet in those days?
It's a congenital condition. Three of my four siblings also had it done.

I have that freezer in white. I would love to have the set, but getting to before May might be challenging. Anyone be willing to pick them up and hold them for me? Depending on how much the seller wants for them, of course.

HA, Norma Desmond, both the original and Carol are favorites. But ya'll don't know "feeling unwanted" till you pull up to the Ford Rouge Plant in your Honda Accord for a sales promo!

Honda nothing.

If you don't drive a Ford, you park at the back of the lot period. Yes, our son had to because he was driving a Chevy when Ford hired him. I wonder if Honda has the same policy at it's plants in Ohio, etc.

I worked for a company that inspected auto parts, so I went to a lot of Ford, GM and Chrysler plants--and I drove a HONDA CiVIC!

But it was out of respect for priority parking for workers, and me being a contractor that at the American Axel/GM, where long ago my dad once worked, that I parked way out in a contractors lot and I seemed to be the only person who did that so I became even more of an outcast, as that foreign/Non-UAW made vehicle stuck out like a sore thumb!

At one place I worked at that did light assembly on headliners for the Pontiac G-6, the boss there actually admired my Honda, and he drove a couple Ford Pick-Ups...

Before I even did this job, I think I drove by at least one auto assembly plant that had a sign that pointedly said: NO FOREIGN OR NON-UAW MADE VEHICLES ALLOWED! So little did I know that I seemed to be someone who briefly drove one (not a homemade soap box, either) and I think the only one while I worked for that 3rd party inspection company...

Yes, and;

many, many parts used in domestic vehicles including Ford trucks are made in Mexico, and Asia.
So drive what you like, because you can. I know, I know, the money is American if you buy big 3, or is it?
The way I look at it, the money is American if it employs more Americans who can then spend the money in America, but that is not how the world works anymore.
A Buick Envision is 100% made in China, and the tiny Encore is sourced from Korea (Daewoo), and assembled here. Same for the Chevy Sonic.

A GM car of days gone by had a rear drive axle from the Detroit axle plant (now American Axle)- moved to Mexico in 2008.
Steering gear made in Saginaw, a transmission from Ypsilanti, Muncie Indiana or Toledo. Wiring harness from Packard Electric in Warren Ohio, starter, switches, light, and alternator form Delco/Remy in Anderson Indiana, and a Delco radio from Kokomo Indiana, then later Mexico. Air conditioner compressor form Frigidaire in Dayton, as well as brakes from Moriane/Delco. Radiators, heater, and A/C evaporator, and condenser cores from Harrison division in NY.
Body trim, door handles, window cranks from Fisher or Tunrstead trim plants.
Bodies were made by the Fisher body plant near their respective engine plants in either Detroit, Flint, Lansing, Pontiac etc. Engines were made in Flint, Lansing, Pontiac,
or Tonowanda NY and shipped cross country to assembly plants.
Buck and Chevy engines were built in Flint, Oldsmobile engines in Lansing, Pontiac engines in Pontiac. Cadillac's main engine plant was in Livonia, after Detroit.
The various parts divisions all became Delphi and were outsourced.
Delphi filed bankruptcy first, in 2007, before GM in 2009. Do the math.
Those jobs are not coming back, nor is that money.

House in Squirrel Hill

It looks to be well constructed, but rather tired looking. New landscaping and paint would do a lot for the exterior. Redecorating would be of much help to the interior. I would expect such a place to sell for not much over $500,000.

But I Want The TWO Element Corning Cook-Top In The Kitchen For The Warehouse Museum.

If anyone here buys the house and does not want the cook-top I will buy it.

Jerry keep an eye out for when the house gets sold, you just know someone might gut the kitchen and trash the rare 2 element CT.

Tom, Circle W;

You're close on the value estimate. It is in North squirrel Hill. According to Zillow, the average home value there is $563,500. Some have sold for over a million, but were in updated move in condition. This one is larger square footage, so going by the price per sq. ft., it can be had for in the $600-$700,000 range, unless a flipper thinks it is worth more, and will fetch a price over $900,000 after updating. As you stated, it is tired in most rooms. It may also need a roof.
Check out Beechwood blvd., etc. nearby, etc. Very nice!
The mean average values in Squirrel Hill south are lower, at $313,200.
Keep in mind that most sellers ask high, at least early on.
Every Zillow listing seems high to me. When I check the sold prices they are usually lower.

..., quoted my father starting our 1978 Nova (a leftover bought in '79)...

Who worked like how Johnny Cash did, putting the wheels on those axels, working at AA (American Axel) from late-Fall, 1976 until Dec. of 1979, getting laid off, when there was still a lot of GREAT we could have gotten "one piece at a time"...
