I looked the other day at sq website, the tr7 had a 3 star review. Miraculously today it’s back up to 5 stars. The one star review just *vanished* |

Keep an eye on the independent review sites. When I was shopping on my mom's behalf for a new vacuum cleaner, the Hoover marketing department had invaded almost every review site I visited with lengthy accounts of miraculous performances.
I say, let SQ do the same thing, on their own site and elsewhere. It will bring them down that much sooner once buyers fork over big bucks for a machine that's poorly designed and can't clean worth a damn. |

Believe me they do NOT want out of the residential market, they would not have spent more than five years and tens of millions developing this new washer, and no Whirlpool is not going to buy Alliance Laundry Systems.
I do predict that you may see a few changes in their lineup sooner than they planned however, they may bring back one model with a transmission, they may take another look at selling FL washers for home use and they may redesign this new TL washer, but this will take a while.

@Combo52: I believe you. Granted I am not Alliance by any stretch of the imagination, but I just don't understand why they would self inflict a wound that is obvious to everyone. Silencing customers is the #1 way to generate bad PR in the modern age.
Granted I did see a few negative reviews on the TR's which did not make sense as the machines had yet to be released, but I mean still. Respond with 'we do not believe this review reflects the TR7 because as of December this model has yet to be released' or something like 'we are sorry about your experience and this review is being forwarded to the design team on how the product can be improved. Also what you describe may come from X problem, please see your warrantee to schedule a possible showing for a service technician' I know because they should ask GE. GE receives BOAT loads of negative reviews and every other one gets something like this: 'Hi this is Nancy from GE. We are sorry to hear of your experience and want to take the time sincerely apologize as customer satisfaction is of utmost priority at GE. This review is being forwarded to our engineering team for further evaluation. In the mean time feel free to contact customer service at xxxxxx' or 'Hi this is Patrick from GE. We are sorry to hear this. There are things you can do to improve cleaning performance such as using the Hotstart option, filling both detergent cups, and running the hot water at the sink for 2 minutes before starting the machine. If this does not improve wash-ability, you may schedule service under warranty. Please see XXXX' Perhaps not word for word, but thats what SQ should be doing that instead of turning their backs like Sears and every other business that went under or got burned did. It may have worked in the 90s and early 2000s, but today people reason with respect and honesty, not arrogance and stonewalling. You can not sell me something and expect me to like it or condition me to like it. I hope they bring back a transmission model, that would win a lot of customers over IMO. |

Was thinking today that the black consoles on the new dud SQ's are indicative of the 'black death' occurring to a good machine and decent company. Sad. |

I expected a furious tidal wave of water in the washer, especially on the heavy-duty cycle! It has a 1 horsepower inverter motor with giant pulley and a 7 ribbed belt but the wash action sucks! What a shame! |

Scrubbing reviews and not taking customer feedback is a good way to destroy a respected brand.
On the 2018 SQ's can the autofill be disabled for full water loads? Saw mention of autofill feature being something you can turn on or off. And are the 2018 SQ dryers mechanically different in any way. I prefer the old style silver vs the super black that reminds me of Kit or Star Wars. Though I'd take any color if it still worked. Prices are up a bit reasonable for a year to year or model change if the new model was better. AWNE92SP was selling her for around $949 to $999 new AWNE9RS $1,039. |

I posted a reply to SQ's Video and attached a link to the Maytag Commercial.
Here's the reply... eddiewhaler1 1 hour ago After watching this video I see nothing but poor performance and practically non existent agitation. You could get clothes cleaner with a washboard. I never expected this from Speed Queen. In my own opinion and gut feelings are telling me that the positive reviews are Allied Employees or relatives of Allied Employees. That is the most lame washing I ever have seen in my life. The Commercial Maytag is absolute dream when it comes to buying a new toploader. Show less REPLY 1 SpeedQueenHome Highlighted reply SpeedQueenHome 26 minutes ago We understand your concern, eddiewhaler1. Regarding the wash action of our newest top load washer, we are seeing some confusion about how it works. There’s no doubt that our wash action is radically different from our previous top load model. If one opens the lid on the new machine and expects what’s happening to look as it did before, it will be a surprise. It is different. It is a new design. A game-changing design, and one that came as a result of three years of extensive research and development from a company that cannot and will not cut corners. But our customers don’t buy Speed Queen solely because it’s well tested. They buy because it delivers quality performance as well. They also don’t take “it really is better” as an answer. Numbers have to tell this story; and they do. Speed Queen’s new top load produces 5 percent better wash results than the previous model and it is 19 percent more gentle. These are numbers from standardized Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) tests. So again, while the wash action is not what you are used to seeing, it produces even better results. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach back out. We hope you will give the new Speed Queen top load washer a try. We are confident you will be impressed. Show less REPLY |

Per Speed Queen reply: "Speed Queen’s new top load produces 5 percent better wash results than the previous model and it is 19 percent more gentle."
I can understand the new models being 19 percent more gentle since items in the tub are just swished back and forth while floating during wash and rinse. But just how could they produce 5 percent better wash results? From what I've seen I'm not buying it. |

Alliance Laundry Systems LLC. isn't even a member of the AHAM.
Here is their members list: www.aham.org/AHAM/AuxCurrentMembe... Their test procedures don't seem to be public, either. You have to pay $110 to find out what they are, it sounds as though SQ tested their own washer and deem it better. The link to the AHAM standards for washers purchase page, just in case anyone has the money to waste. www.aham.org/ItemDetailQU... |

I made a comment on Youtube and SQ promptly replied with their new boilerplate about the 5% and 19%. They also said they don't expect word of mouth or videos the prove their point. The numbers are proof.
They're right. I'll wait for Cnet, Reviewed and Consumer Reports to do their AHAM stain and thread tests. See how THOSE numbers actually come out before I pass full judgement. |

You can voice your opinion on any subject. Statements of fact later shown to be false sometimes have to be retracted, like when newspapers correct earlier false reports, and so on. Just because a company looses business that is not automatically the fault of whomever they decide to blame. They may attempt to sue, but probably won't want the negative publicity that would generate and therefore usually refrain from doing so. Purposely attempting to harm or defame with lies and false information is of course risky, but it's also most of what passes for journalism these days. CLICK HERE TO GO TO Stricklybojack's LINK |

There's a lot of fair points going around.
It's also NOT out of the question that if Alliance wants to be exceptionally vindictive, they can absolutely try to pull a "Flash of Genius" and drag Eugene through court for years. Companies don't care. They have dozens of suits constantly, with an army of revolving lawyers. I doubt it'll come to that, but it's not like Eugene doesn't have a good defense either. I hope this doesn't get messy. For everyone's sake. The real tells will be how the ratings journalists do their reviews and their laboratory wash tests. |

And thats why we are in the mess we are in today with pretty much everything. Because people seem to back off every challenge and let psychopaths turn them into their plaything. People turn a blind eye to injustice and systemic problems hoping it will never happen to them when it eventually bights them too harder then they could have ever imagined. Thats not how self preservation or a healthy society functions. While a nation of warriors just scored an entire nation with free housing, food, education, healthcare, and comfort, solitude, and peace beyond there wildest imagination.
If a man has to worry about retaliation from a corporation for stating the obvious then there are much bigger issues at hand then a crappy product and that needs to be dealt with. I agree he is poking a sleeping dragon, but if he doesn't who else will? He has every right as an educated person to present the facts in order for buyers to make an educated decision. I think it would be immoral not to as customer may have to deal with a $900 loss wishing someone told them beforehand. Do you have any idea how many times I have bought something wishing someone told me before hand? |

DylanMitchell: Do the 2018 Speed Queen top loaders let you do deepwater full fill loads and turn off the auto fill setting?Picture #3 in your Reply #22 of a SQ model TR7 control panel confirms there are Load Size choices for Small, Medium, Large, and Auto Fill ... so yes, the water level can be selected manually for three levels, or set for auto-sensed. TR5 and TR3 have rotary controls but the water level selector has the same four choices as the touch-pad model.

has been fortunate enough to receive a properly programmed 2018 Speed Queen? It's simply out of the question that everyone posting videos of these machines operating poorly made it up. If that's the case - then, great! Now, Speed Queen needs to contact every single owner (and apologize to quite a few former dealers) and reprogram the things to work as does Ryan's. (This isn't snark, by the way - Miele did a similar thing in the Spring of 2007). |

I'm sure that it works fine...but like I said earlier, these machines have turned into a modern machine. You can't just "throw and go" anymore like the previous models. Users need to pay attention to cycle choices, loading properly (not overloading), using plenty of water for the load, etc. Where as the previous models you could pretty much wash anything on any cycle without issue. Unfortunately that's not how most modern washers work anymore.

As I have said before many consumers will like this new machine, it has several advantages, better spin, more gentile on clothing, quieter and more reliable and longer potential life.
This new design is not going to be improved to clean really big dirty loads by reprogramming it, it is what it is, we are going to sell some of these machines this year, but as we always do we will have to make sure this washer is a good choice for our customer.

Other than with the laundry.
They spent a great deal of time and money developing the industry equivalent of the Chevy Vega. Right now they are trying to convince their stock holders they did the right thing. Where I look at them heavily marketing this machine is on the commercial arena. They will program it to auto fill, and sell it as saving resources, increasing profits and more durable. The coin laundries will jump at them where the users have little choice but to pay their $1.50 to have their clothes swished around. Drift: Speaking of coin laundries. I took a big area rug, not too large, but too large for a home machine to the laundry recently. I put it in a Wescomat triple loader, where a double loader would have sufficed. In any case, the regular wash was $4.50, if you wanted warm or hot water add .50 cents. Heavy wash was an additional .50 cents. I hadn't realized that they were charging for warm/hot water anymore. It has been a few years since I was at a coin laundry. This post was last edited 02/09/2018 at 12:15 |

But the Cosworth (1975-76 only) was the best version of the Vega, IMHO. A friend has a '76 be bought new and it's in excellent condition, no rust either.
PS... 1976 and later Vegas didn't have any problems with early rust, due to galvanizing all of the body panels starting that year. This post was last edited 02/09/2018 at 14:08 |

If they don't want you to sell their miserable P.O.S. machines, I'd say "good riddance". There's just no future in selling such a lousy machine. It certainly won't help you gain any "word of mouth" reputation from your customers. |

I didn't criticize you. I did leave open the possibility that your machine reflects changes to the programming which resulted in it performing well.
This is not The Collector's Club Which Must Not Be Named, this is a group of people who are capable of disagreeing without being disagreeable.
I've taken radically, totally, absolutely different views to many of the other members here on a few subjects through the years. Some Imperial Queens did, indeed, act rather boorishly but most just disagreed and we continued to work together on the things we had in common.
Your Speed Queen experience matches that of just about all of us prior to the 2018 models. Good for you!
However - there's no question that Alliance is not reacting to criticism the way Whirlpool or GE or Electrolux react. There's also no question that quite a few videos and user reports show some serious problems with cleaning and even operation compared to other SQ washers.
One way or the other, this will settle out. In a short time, other SQ washers will be found to be working as well as yours - problem solved. Or, in a short time enough people who like earlier SQ washers are going to chime in with those seeing problems and Alliance will either have to fix things or drop the current line-up.
Dyson and Cadillac and Maytag all went through this at some point. People who buy and sell at this end of the market have expectations which the manufacturer will, sooner rather than later, meet. |

Noticed this today. Pay attention to how the TOL model is 5 stars, middle of the line 4 stars and BOL 2 stars soon to go to 3 when they delete the review from 6 hours ago. Perhaps its a coincidence, but I can seriously see them giving the TOLs 5 stars and letting more bad reviews slip trhough as you go down the line to create the perception that when you pay more you get more. Typical uniformed consumer will certainly go to the TOL no questions asked.

Here is the review. It does not surprise me as this is the customer base Speed Queen normally deals with- not clueless people who just spend more for the fun of it.
Also, notice what it replaced. A 30 year old Maytag which could easily make this a Helical transmission and one of those "finless" agitators. Not regarded as top cleaning washers around here. The fact one of these users is disappointed speaks for itself.

And notice how the customer could tell the difference between the quality and performance rather then just rate everything negative like a typical dissatisfied consumer. The people buying these machines are not dumb, but extremely intelligent and well informed people. Working class people with a technical background that get their clothes really dirty and affluent college educated individuals who refuse anything less then the best in all categories. Two types of people who will not take dirty clothes or BS. As for the average joe, no way would he or she spend that much money for something that looks like a WWII artifact (in style) when for the same money can buy a really sexy looking TOL Samsung/LG/Whirlpool, or for 1/3 the price a reliable good cleaning VMW assuming they even know about SQ.
This new machine offers nothing for any buyer. |

What's worse than hiding negative reviews? Gaming the review system with testimonials. And full disclosure I have no proof SQ or Alliance is doing this but some reviews are very positive and read like testimonials. Other companies have gone down this dark road and if SQ (again no proof yet) is doing this that's a good way to kill the brand. I may be wrong and the 2018 SQ's may indeed be a better machine and deserve the praise.

Those reviews could certainly be phony. I personally know that for years around me lesser quality rental properties get 5 star reviews from the office staff and landlord to balance out the loads of one star reviews of noisy neighbors, no heat, maintenance that doesn't fix anything, ect, ect. Its obvious as day when they are defensive and list all the amenities of the property like in the local adverts- something no legit renter would write.

It is their website, they should be able to do what they want with those reviews. What will be more informative to me personally will be customer reviews from CR and other independent sites that do not include reviews from the manufacturer website. |

It's the ultimate irony that Speed Queen a company that grew out of Barlow and Seelig improving existing machines in the 1900's is now controlled by investment bankers in the 2000's (BDT Capital). Any coincidence there have been so many changes since 2015 when BDT got a major stake in Alliance?
In reference to an earlier post, I'm also curious about Alliance's financial figures. And did the redesign of machines start before or after BDT Capital bought up a majority stake? You'd also think the old machine with programming or other tweaks (that a consumer could override later) could have made the old machines compliant? Or were the Dept of Energy Reg for 2018 really too much for the old machines to meet and still perform well? Anyone one know what's happened to companies like Alliance after BDT Capital Partners buys a majority stake like they did with Alliance in 2015 and if the Investment Bankers (BDT) are now calling the shots? |

The old machines were fine with regard to the new regulations and water usage. The old motor simply used too much electricity. If they used the modern motor design that was more efficient they could have kept everything else the same. If they used the slow speed motor windings for agitation on Normal/Eco and included a few pauses, they even could have kept the old motor.

I can say that after the Stephen family relinquished control of Weber Stephen grills to BDT, their whole operation has changed. Domestic sourcing and manufacturing is being all off-shored. I've heard only the high end charcoal products will stay in the US.
Many local Chicago Weber facilities are being mothballed or consolidated. And I've met a lot of "former" Weber folks recently. So the traditional staff want no part of the changes. They say it's all changing, and BDT just wants to squeeze more money out of the already very profitable rock. Be prepared for waves of shoddy Weber quality the next few years until they realize the market will not support their corner cutting. I am honestly surprised that Alliance has not gone through the same thing yet. Maybe it is, and the market hasn't seen it yet. |
