I guess the gauge of steel used is such that such a stamping was necessary for strength.

Oops! i’m not sure what it is either, so i changed the title to read Maytag.

It was things like this which drove Maytag into the ground. Excessive cost cutting all around instead of coming up with a design that actually gives more for less like Whirlpool did.

Its just a Norge and the picture makes the lid pressing look exaggerated, the reinforcement ribs are not that noticeable in real life and were really a good thing when you see so many washer lids that are caved in.
