Guys,

Two nights ago I saw an ad on craigslist, a Kenmore dishwasher for free.

The only dishwasher I have is a 4-place Haier countertop that Revvinkevin found on a state sale and kindly brought to me in his truck. It works great, not leaks and it cleans well. But the absurdly small capacity and the lack of a rinse aid dispenser is driving me nuts, so a bigger dishwasher is more than welcome and FREE it's even better.

Anyway, yesterday I picked it up (yes, it fits on the back seat of a Corolla if one uses the brain, some elbow grease and lots of crisco or KY jelly), Than Darryl and I almost killed ourselves to bring it to the kitchen (2nd floor).

Wonderful news. It works and it's super strong. YAY!

Horrible news, it leaks.

Dishwashers are not "my" world, but I could guess it's something theoretically simple.

Does anybody have any information about this specific model? a Service manual would be even better. I'm planning to take it apart tomorrow morning and see if something can be done to save it.

But Darryl and I have an agreement. Both dishwashers are temporary and we won't spend any money ans we plan to stay in this apartment only for about 8 months.

After I move, then I'll consider getting something new if the place I move doesn't have a dishwasher. I simply won't spend money on a new dishwasher now and then after a few months take the chance to scrach or dent it during the moving.

Of course, if the cost to repair is insignificant, I'd love to fix it.

The model number is 587.1744590 I believe it's probably from early 90's.

I'll post pictures in two minutes as the pictures are in my cell phone and I'm lazy to transfer the files to the computer.

Looks to be the same style as mother's 1987 Kenmore full-size.  I remember looking at these when we got hers.

First thing to know is these DWs are famous for leaking.

Is it leaking around and under the door or leaking over and around the main motor?, unless you find something that is just loose it will cost some time and effort and possible money for parts to fix.

Let me know what you find wrong, we have boxes of parts for D&M DWs that I will probably throw away when we complete the move of are parts room.

Dear John

Thank you for your comments!

Yesterday i had some time to clean it, it looks pristine, however, the sump was "that" disaster that required some elbow grease but now it's 99% better.

It leaks on the motor and also on the bottom left side of the door.
Also, the dispenser doesn't work (the main wash compartment doesn't open)

I also noticed, yesterday, that the GFCI outlet in my kitchen tripped continuously during the drying time.

The rinse aid dispenser is not nasty, but I'f i'm going to overhaul the dishwasher and you have the part, why not replace it, right?

I'm not sure if the leak is a cracked sump or pump housing or the motor seal. I'm definitely sure it's not just a cracked hose LOL

By the way, do you have a service manual for that model?
