Repairman said it is coming from a valve and can't be fixed. Does anyone have any experience with this? Will it cause the machine to fail? My only option to keep peace in the home is to purchase a brand new dishwasher, and they don't make 'em like they used to. Thanks.

I may have a fill valve.

But here's one on Flea Bay

Valve

I had no problem getting a valve for my kds-17 which is the ultimate dishwasher.Your serviceman lied to you that certainly can be fixed.

Here it is on RepairClinic...they changed from a double to a single but this is the Whirlpool part.  They are much cheaper on ebay.

Thank you everyone for your advice. My partner purchased the replacement valve and installed it, and the squealing has stopped! Hoping that nothing that else will go wrong, and that the machine will continue to perform for many more years.

So we replaced the original double fill valve with a new WP single solenoid replacement valve. The squealing stopped, but the dishwasher doesn't seem to operate nearly as well. We notice that there is always dishwasher detergent residue in the dispenser cups and we often find dishes that aren't clean, even though I thoroughly remove all food scraps and rinse the dishes before loading the machine. We are going to purchase a used original double valve and see if that works any better.

Is is possible that the new single replacement valve doesn't allow enough water into the machine?

Thanks.

Its not likely that the new valve is the problem, the water level in the DW when it is done filling in the main wash should almost cover the top of the SS filter.

If not check out your plumbing to the inlet valve, make sure there are no kinks in the supply plumbing, and that the water supply is turned on completely.

If WL is ok check to see if lower arm is turning easily [ also make sure the arm is installed with the holes pointing up ] believe it or not I have seen the lower wash arm installed upside-down.
