I think it's been at least a year ago that someone here mentioned an ad blocker that they were using.  I can't remember the name, but I downloaded it and it was very effective.

Several months ago after a Firefox update, the blocker stopped working.  Its little green icon still appeared in the upper right corner on the toolbar, but its counter for the number of blocked ads sat there at zero.   I searched on line and found that the blocking software hadn't yet been updated.  Not long after that, the counter started counting again and ads were getting blocked.

Since both a MS update and a FF update nearly coincided recently, the blocker icon has disappeared and I can't even find it listed in my programs.  Really, the whole bar across the top barely displays anything with FF since they did their big makeover.  Maybe the blocker is still there but isn't displaying, but I don't know how to get my "classic" toolbar back -- if that's even possible.

I think the name started with "H" but am not entirely sure.  Does anyone have an idea of what this particular thing is called?  The counter only went up to 99, and when pulling up news sites, it would usually hit 99 in short order.

If there's another free product that works well for you, please advise.  I'm using Windows 10 and Firefox, although I'm becoming annoyed with FF and don't like the changes they've made recently.  I'm considering making MS Edge my default instead.  Any advice on that would be appreciated as well.

I used AdBlock for years.  Ran across an advisory/review a year+ ago that uBlock Origin is better so I switched.

uBlock Origin isn't yet compatible with Firefox Quantum, so I got adblock for the time being.

Thanks or the suggestions!

I'm running FF 59.0.1 (Quantum 32-bit) and uBlock Origin 1.15.18.

Hmmm.  I wonder why uBlock gave me that message.
