I need some advice on fixing an early 70s Halo Of Heat (DE307) Canadian model.
Last week the dryer would no longer heat. It would run but there is no heat.
I checked the cycling thermostat and had continuity across the blue and purple wires so it appears to be working properly.
I checked the heater wire and there are no breaks and there is continuity across the two black terminals.
Next I checked the hi-limit thermostat and this appears to be the problem. Looking at the schematic inside the dryer it appears that there should be continuity across the green and the purple wires if you jump the black wires together and there is not. There is only continuity across the black and the purple at the bottom of the thermostat.
I have attached an image of the hi-limit thermostat and the schematic. I can't find this part anywhere on the internet. Most parts stores list the replacement part for the DE307 hi-limit thermostat as part #305865 and not 3-03329 (the original part number). The only problem is #305865 only has two terminals and the original part had four terminals.
Does anyone know if I can use the two terminal part #305865 as a replacement? I figure if I jump together the black and green wires and run the black and purple wires through the new thermostat it should work properly. This is how it appears to be done in some parts diagrams I found on the internet.
Any help would be very much appreciated. It would really hurt me to have to have to junk this tank of a dryer if this simple fix will repair it.
