First thing I would do is remove the belts and then try to run it, see if the drum spins freely. on one that I got the drum bearings were very dry and it wouldn't spin, if that's the case the dryer has to come apart to access that, it actually has a wick in there. Try with the belt off first. |

It sounds like the starting winding is shot. May not be a bad idea to start looking for a new motor for it. |

These were the next worst motor to the Westinghouse motors that MT used on these dryers, best were the Emerson next were the GEs, however the GEs often were the loudest ones.
Be sure you have a steel motor pulley, the pot-metal ones were no good because they wore quickly and allowed too much belt slippage. John L. |

I got the pilot lit. And im wondering how the mechanism works to make the dryer run, because I can’t seem to get it to run continuously. It’ll run for a second then shut off when I push it to start! Wondering what is wrong and how to fix it? |

The Maytag DG606 is pretty similar to the one I have, but mine is in avocado green, and I had to do some repainting there was some rust in the inside, and on the rear panel. The only thing I have left to do is solder the wires onto the electronic dry control board since the wires have worked themselves loose, and if they are loose, the dryer won’t shut off properly.
Here’s a photo of my DG606
