A Chambers cooktop with the KitchenAid name on it. It actually looks very nice and certainly seems worth the $300 asking price. In Palm Desert.

Chambers family sold the company and it was subsequently gobbled up by KitchenAid (when it was still a division of Hobart), which then in turn was sold to Whirlpool.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chambers_s...

Due to changes in demographics and or whatever Chambers (under Kitchenaid/Hobart) did make attempts to keep up with what Mrs. Modern American Housewife wanted in range or cooker. So am guessing the item linked above was part of "giving them what they want" so to speak.

KA bought Chambers to have a full line of kitchen appliances. The daisy burners gave very uneven heating. While the broil element under the griddle gave very even heating in the griddle, it made a hellacious mess of the well in which the broiler pan was located, but they had to put their broilers there because the original Chambers ovens did not have broiler elements in them. They were super insulated ovens of a very old design with no broiler compartment under the gas oven. They modernized the electric ovens before KA bought them but I never saw their newer gas wall oven so I don't know what they looked like or even if they existed.

I never saw one in person, but I have a kitchen magazine from the 80s, that had several of these cooktops. It is odd seeing the KitchenAid name on the cooktop though.

Was there an electric version of this, under the KitchenAid name also or just the gas?

That exhaust fan reminds me of the one my aunt has in her kitchen. But hers is a Tradwind and it's under a canopy and has a pull down rack with infra-red lights above it for warming food.

I hate a mess...

Watching the old Rachel Ray cooking show I often thought what a mess that Chambers broiler would make...of course she never had to clean it. Maybe a piece of fish broiled would be OK after you lined the whole thing with aluminum foil but then why not just use a frying pan?

Am of the opinion that Chambers ranges/ovens of old were not that much removed from AGA type ranges. That is if one's meals tended towards roasts, stews, and baked goods then things were fine.

Also wondered for years why many British kitchens had those add on broilers. Well they would have to wouldn't they as AGA type ranges don't do broiling. So if you wanted kippers.....

The ad is deleted, so someone thought it was worth $175.

No, not really

launderess's profile picture
Far to often for many CL sellers people not local contact them to purchase an item on offer, but for various reasons never close the deal. Even a local offer does not always equate to a done deal.

Hence you see many listings now as "cash only", "no shipping", and "if the ad is still up, it is still available"...

Don't recall seeing "Serious Buyers Please" in first advert either. But may have missed things; however if that wording is new it does give some indication the previous deal (if there was one) proved problematic at best and a time waster at worst.
