We had a different and enjoyable time at our home. I had never had such an event and was somewhat nervous about doing it, but all in all, turned out rather exciting and I think everyone here had a real nice time.

Enjoy,

Steve

Mr. Andrews (worked at Frigidaire from 1947-1985 as a service tech.) He brought to me all these tools for our "Easy to Work on Frigidaire's"!

Photo #2 is PRICELESS----Steve experiences the "joy" of working on a Frigidaire. PeterH is not too thrilled with it either. Gotta love it.

Photo #4 shows the "Green Hornet"----LOVE that Highlander all tricked out with the funky green console! That thing rarely took a break all weekend and never skipped a beat----typical.

Had a wonderful time. Was so glad to meet and visit with Mr. Andrews. A true mechanical genius, and many years of hands-on experience working on Frigidaires. Oh, and all the stories about his dealings with the folks at the Frigidaire factory, etc. He even told me a story of his visit to the factory where they made the old Rustinghouse F/L's---somewhere in Ohio, I believe. He said the factory was in an appalling state of dis-repair, with windows broken out all over the place, poor lighting and filthy conditions. He said it was so strange to see those new machines so sparkling clean and new moving down the assembly line in such a run down factory. Who knew?

Many thanks to Steve and Jeff for their endless hospitality, and good food and drink! As always, a great way to meet and visit with others that share the same interests..

Helicaldrive Steve, you have a doppelganger in Minnesota and he is my dentist. You could easily pass as brothers.

Looks like everyone had a great time! Steve, you have the cleanest, greatest garage I've ever seen.

Man, Steve, what a thriving collection! I really like the Harvest Gold 10 Series 'Tags - a color you never see on the later machines - very stunning. Your Maytags do Newton proud!

Also, your GM collection is very nice as well! What a guest - Mr. Andrews! I'm sure the vast knowledge and stories was well it. Thanks for posting ~

Wow, what a great wash-in. Steve, how did you meet Mr. Andrews? What luck in finding him as a resource. I could think of a million questions to ask that guy if I ever saw him in person.

As the others said, your garage is beautiful and how clever to pair up the machines in the middle where there wasn't wall space for them all. Looks just like an appliance store. Thanks for sharing with all of us that couldn't be there.

Patrick

i see a Maytag agitator in one of the panels, on a table. it looks quite wide at the bottom, like a classic style, but with wings on the centerpost. is it dependable care?

Mr. Andrews was exclusivly Frigidaire. He worked on EVERYTHING they made and went to all of the technical classes and district meetings, etc.

He said the communications between the people in the field and the people at the factory was exemplary. He said he could call up the person who actually designed a particular appliance if he needed to, and they would help him out as long as he needed. He had only the higest praise for Frigidaire from the executive office to the factory.
On the other hand, he thinks the poorest designed washers ever built were Frigidaire's!They just changed the design and components too often. Of them all though, he prefers the Rollermatics---both "solid-tub" and 1-18.

I got the impression the Rustinghouse story was sometime in the mid to late 1950's. He said conditions in the factory were such that employees had nowhere to go during lunch and would sit in the filthy stairwells and have their lunches, coffee breaks, etc. He said with all the broken windows around it was brutally cold in many areas. It is no wonder they were so heavily union---but it doesn't sound like the unions did much to improve the conditions in their workplace. It had to effect the quality of their product.

Mr. Andrews was VERY impressed with the old Bendix products and considered the Bendix front loaders among the absolute BEST washers ever built! He discussed the design and specifications extensivly.

He is also a BIG Maytag fan. He currently has a Neptune F/L and loves it. Thinks what has happened to Maytag in recent years is a disgrace.
