Hello,
Newbie here - sent from the Houzz forums. I am in the market for a washer/dryer the house we moved into has an old Kenmore that sounds like gerbils are running on the belt to get it started and the dryer has mice that need to be fed. They are smaller washer/dryer. There is someone on Craiglist that lives in my community who is selling their Whirlpool WTW4800xq2 washer and WED5840sw0 dryer. I only saw a few comments on the washer without the '2' on the end. Seems they are better built then current model top loaders? No 2017 Speed Queens available in my state - or else I might have sprung for that. The person selling is asking $500. for both. What are your thoughts? I do have Queen and King Quilts maybe the Queen will fit in it? Old reviews online are mixed... would this one have the water heating restriction on it?

These machines are

the same as what you would get if you bought a Whirlpool (or Amana, Roper, Crosley, etc.) pair new from a dealer today. This is the VMW platform washer that is not nearly the machine that the earlier DD platform was. Not a bad machine in general but nothing to call home about. It will have temperature controlled fill. The dryer is the current iteration of the classic top-filter Whirlpool design. Lighter materials than one from 30+ years ago, but a good machine nonetheless. My opinion is that the price is a bit high. Depending on the model/control package, you could get a pair like this new in the $699-899 range. Don't know about the market where you live, but if we had these machines in our used room for sale, in perfect condition, we'd probably ask $450 for the pair and we would put a warranty on them.
