Last weekend had a gang of us attending Als home to see the fruits of his labours with the addition of a super duper new extension to his home, making a divine new galley kitchen fit for a chef (or 2 lol)
and an equally matching dining space, of course what does one do with the existing kitchen.....Well Lets Take A Look !! The first link is to the original washroom being created. This pic is where we usually end all end up on the patio and is the side of the house that has basically had an L shaped wrap around extension built onto it. CLICK HERE TO GO TO chestermikeuk's LINK

We finished last Halloweeens official gathering by packing stuff away as the new build was to contine weather permitting over the next 4 months into the new year, Al had worked out all specifications, plans drawn and builders, plumbers sparkys vetted and recruited ready for action...And the first day saw the team digging up the grounds of hallowed turf to relay a new drainage system.

Which led us to this weekend where we gathered to start moving appliances about into their new home and to see the new build. It was envisaged that this could be a big reveal weekend, fully finished, but with all things building , weather permitting and snags it was a work in progress weekend, The power , water and services where only switched on a few hrs before we arrived. We had a special club member fly in to cut the ribbon officially, but am sure hew will be back for the next big date - Fully Finished !!
It literally was all hands to decks as we unpacked the kitchen and dining room...

Now with all that hot soapy water and machoine testing we realise there was a plumbing issue and the floor drains were not clearing quick enouch, mops at the ready...so out come the technical drawings, grids and pipework found, tops whipped off and plunge to find concrete and builders rubble that had slipped down, so hands in and rods down and flushing with test water . flowing a treat in no time !!

After a quick change the mechanic became the chef for tonights dinner, now some may remember we had a visit to Richards In Durham, Beamish weekend, and while there Richards mum cooked the sunday roast meats for us to have sunday dinner, Richard asked me to help him pull the dinner together and serve. The good thing with this group is we can all muck in, So Al Said on planning for this weekend "You did such a good job of pulling it together that I`m not even going to bother" , will you and Mathew do sunday dinner - Of Course.
I rings Mathew to discuss, so Mathew asks, so we are working with all new kitchen , equipment and ovens, YES, and have you used the ovens yet, NO, not been used per, "Oh, No Pressure Then" ha ha ha ...

Jon & Mikey are remembering the sounds of the Hotpoint Microtronic 2000 from childhood...This was seen by Mathew while on his dinner break on the back of a local scrap van, so he went door knocking till he found the owner, The things we do to aquire these appliances !!

John was quite taken by it, caught him sneaking a quick peek now and then, its quite simple in the fascia layout for a computer controlled machine, I love the large orange detailed options selection buttons.

Oh if only time could go slower during these meet ups. The new space that Al has created is brilliant and shows the fabulous collection of machines beautifully.
Its been great to help move things into place and have time to play and fix things too.i think Al is not going to be too popular with the recycling collectors though given the a,ount of bottles we got through! A lovely long weekend with old friends and new and looking forward to many more. S :) |

WOW Al all your planning and work have really come together, a huge Thank You to you and Mike for letting us share in the big unveiling of your new home and collection space.
Ken and I really had a great weekend meeting all the other guys and seeing everyone working on getting the vintage laundry area together and watching all the food preparation etc that made this such a good time.
A few pictures of the event. |

This is a late 60s model being torn apart to repair an outer tub leak.
It is a fascinating machine, it is basically a smaller version of an American GE FF style washer that has a built-in 240 volt heater and spins much faster. You can see many similar design ideas with the US models and yet nothing is interchangeable. |

I can hardly believe that a week has gone by since I was saying "so long" to the last of my friends leaving after the weekend. Thanks to everyone who attended and put so much work in getting the additional space set up and the machines in place.
And just in case anybody wondered, the original washer room is still there - awaiting some repainting and more machines, hopefully with a larger variety of appliances - hopefully it will be ready in a couple of months or so. Great to see John (combo52) again and also to meet Ken, it is so enjoyable to be able to share our knowledge of different machines from our respective countries. And thanks also to everyone for another wonderful weekend - its the machines that brought us together, it is the fun, laughter and friendship that keeps us there. Al |

Can I ask what the older Miele pair are, and what the dryer sitting atop the newer Miele is? Just goes to show, an outwardly unpromising house can still be made into something special with a bit of inspiration. |

That kitchen island is the coolest, longest, most enviable one I've ever seen. ALL the rooms are so long--I love it. With so much wonderful equipment, Al, you could open a hotel. Would die to see the Spiral Dasher in action, you Big Teaser you, Mikey! Acknowledgement and gratitude for the long hard labour of love & fun you guys share with the whole world here. It is amazing!
