Hi Guys,

I am looking for old and tired, worn-out and unusable Unimatic or Multimatic or Rollermatic agitator "Pulsators" .... or better known as Energy Rings. The uglier, the better! Specifically the ones with the "D" OR HEX shaped hole in the middle. If you have any that you are willing to part with, I am in the market for such. Please email me or PM me to discuss. Thanks!

Bud:

I don't have one of these but if you reproduce them I would be very interested in one for a Unimatic. Also, did you get the cap from Tommy??? Hope things are going well with you.

Bob

Getting closer ....

#1 is an original Frigidaire pulsator.
#2 is my copy reusing the original metal flange from an old pulsator. Finally worked out the correct color, sheen and rubber firmness.

And I'm still looking for old, worn out pulsators. If you have any, please let me know.

You are doing an AMAZING job of reproducing these FRIGIDAIRE parts! This is very exciting for all vintage FRIGIDAIRE washer collectors & fans!

THANK YOU for your GREAT efforts! I can't wait to see everything you do!
:o)

Thanks Hippiedoll ...

for the kind words but judging by the number of views vs replies, maybe not.

I can't see how many views this thread has gotten. But I do see the replies.
I can tell you this though, I don't think the FRIGIDAIRE 1-18 uses this kind of energy ring (I really don't know) but I am really excited/enthusiastic about what you are working on here! I think it's GREAT what you are doing!!

I believe your efforts are a positive in keeping these vintage FRIGIDAIRE washers in service! And since these original energy rings do get worn out, damaged, dried out, cracked, hard, etc., what you are doin is OUT OF SIGHT BABY!

Keep up with the great work & your vision in sight!
I think you have a great idea here my friend!
;o)

BUD:

That is remarkable work. All club members with Frigidaire machines (especially Unimatics) should certainly be looking at this work. Those energy rings are subject to split and they are un-usuable after that happens. I will be having you make me one in the near future.

Million load wash award goes to .....

Had to post a picture of this old pulsator that Ben sent me. (Bottom Right) That one gets the "million load" award. Poor thing!! I think he said it was out of his '56.

First of all, congratulations. I understand that the WO-65-2 uses a different energy ring than the later three ring pump agitators; something about the depth of the tub being different. I don't guess that you are making those, right? I have it and could send it if you would want to take a look at it. I swear that these are easier on fabrics than new, low water use tumbler machines.

Hi Tom ....

Ben sent me an email explaining the pulsator differences awhile back. I'll copy it here for AW prosperity.

“Bud, here's the scoop on the 1947-1951 and 1952-1954 pulsators.

The 47-51 pulsators are a three piece assembly - an upper aluminum top, rubber ring, and an aluminum cup on the bottom, and all three pieces come apart as separate items. I do have one but at the moment it's up in Minnesota at a friends house. The black rubber ring (5433557) is the same black and sheen as the later black caps. It seems the black rings survived but they are susceptible to cupping along the edges.

In 1952 when GM introduced the WO-65-2, they created the first one piece pulsator - 5417486. This can be used on the 1949 WL-64 with the "modernized" tub, which is the same tub as the WO-65 and WO-65-2.

And, in 1955 GM redesigned the base of the tub which required the new 5432199 pulsator we all know and love. The redesigned tubs have a taller base/pulsator, so if you try to use a 5432199 in a WO-65 machine the pulsator will slam against the bottom of the tub, and the 5417486 doesn't come down far enough on the later machines to properly move clothes.

It seems mostly that folks run into issues trying to find the later black version of the 5432199 for the 1955 WV-65 or a grey 5432199 for the '56-'64 machines.”

So to answer your question Tom, I have thought about making a mold for the pulsator you ask about, the 5417486. But to be honest I have to balance the amount of money it would take to make the mold vs how many people would be asking for this pulsator. It took nearly $300 in materials to make the mold for the 58-64 pulsator. And since they are the same size, the cost would be the same.

Maybe this would be a good time to take a poll to get a barometer reading on the number of people who would like to have a new 52-54, 5417486 pulsator? If I hear of people needing more than say, 6, it would be cost effective to make the mold. Maybe Tom, you or someone else already have an idea of the number of this pulsator that people need?

If everyone who wants/needs this pulsator, please chime in so I can get an idea of the actual number.

Baffled ....

I thought surely I would get more than one person to chime in on my last reply to this thread. Just one person messaged me to say they were interested in a new 52-54, 5417486 pulsator. Surely there are a few more 52-54 Frigidaire washers out there needing new pulsators.

Well Bud----

as I've mentioned before, I would certainly pitch-in for a couple of each one made. I will also chip-in towards the development costs. Just shoot me a message.

Hi Bud,

Great work you are doing! I just want to suggest that maybe you post your query in the Imperial forum where more members who collect and restore vintage machines may see it. (Include your awesome photos!)

I would go in on the earlier pulsator production as well, would be nice to have a spare or two.

Rich is right - this may get more exposure in Imperial forum and you'd get more responses.

Bud, although I don't have the parts that you need as models I would still be willing to help out with development costs. I have 3 Frigidaire washers so the chances of me needing a part that you may eventually be able to fabricate is definitely something I would like to help out with!
