I'm wondering who made the washers and dryers. I can't think of a dryer with a door like that with hinges on the wrong side (I mean on the Maytag side!). The washer lid looks a bit like those on Norge/Wards washers.

Any ideas?

You might need to scroll up a bit to see the machines.

Looks very Blackstone-ish (and swings the correct way).

Oh, I think Paul told me he thought those machines were Blackstone.

I just found another ad showing the dryer with the extra long door like Blackstone dryers.

As for the side the door swings, I guess I'm just not used to it but I prefer when it swings on the other side! On HOH maytags, the door was small enough that it didn't matter much if the dryer was installed at the right of the washer as most are!

That actually is an interesting break, showing the 1974 Tappan (wide window) stove but the 1976 non-Tappan design (glass backsplash) stove (and no mention of Tappan in the later ad. Did this correspond with when the Quebec cooking appliance plant (which Electrolux closed a couple years ago) was built (which would allow Belanger to source there)? Hmm.

The large dryer door, button arrays and knobs are pretty much a match to 1970s Blackstone.

Tappan in Canada used to be "Tappan-Gurney" and in the seventies, the Gurney brand was later split from Tappan and part of Belanger (which had it's factory in Montmagny QC) and Tappan was a part of WCI (I don't know exactly when though). I don't know if they made Tappan appliances at the L'Assomption plant which used to be Hupp Canada/Roy and then WCI/Frigidaire and Electrolux. I've seensome store brands being made there as well as Gibson, Roy and Frigidaire.

As far as know, Bélanger ranges were not related to Tappan but I could be wrong, things changed so many times...

As for the glass/backsplash, even on brands like GE-Hotpoint or GM Frigidaire, often Canadian products didn't look like their US equivalents... In fact, some shared very few parts!
