I was chatting with Mom on the phone today and I asked her where Gauggels Clock Shop was in town many decades back. She corrected me that Gauggels was an appliance store and not a clock shop and thats where she bought her Filter flo washer in 1955 when she got married. Mind you, she didnt say G E or washing machine but FILTER FLO. It must have been a huge thing back in the day for people to still remember it.

I learned to do laundry with a Filter-Flo in the 70s.  It was a great washer to watch.  Sprinkling the detergent powder around the filter pan, cleaning the lint ball out of the pan at the end of the cycle...ours had the mini-basket too.

I had two older sisters that were always washing one or two "special" items at a time so the mini-basket got a lot of use at our house.  Too bad there was no such feature for the dryer...they still wasted a lot of energy!

The capacity was small by today's standards though, that's for sure.

It was replaced by a used Maytag which was also a great machine but not nearly as much fun.
