DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE "EASY" WASHING MACHINE MADE IN SYRACUSE, NY? WHAT YEAR DID THEY STOP PRODUCTION? I GREW UP IN SYRACUSE AND ALWAYS WONDERED. MY FIRST WASHER WAS AN "EASY" WRINGER BACK IN 1986 (IT WAS 50 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME!) AND WORKED LIKE A CHAMP, EXCEPT IT LEAKED OIL. I GOT RID OF IT THOUGH FOR A 1958 WHIRLPOOL IMPERIAL AUTOMATIC.

The Syracuse Washing Machine Company sold/was bought by Murray.
Murray sold to Hupp.
Hupp sold to WCI.
WCI killed it.

The Syracuse automatic was primarily a Beam design.
Murray came up with Velva-Power toploaders and the combo.
Hupp stop manufacturing and used rebranded Hotpoint washers.
WCI went Franklin.

WCI was Franklin/Beam - White Sewing Machine Co. bought out Franklin sometime in the late 50's or early 60's and became White Consolidated Industries.

what happen to Easy washers:

I'm glad that someone finialy said It. That WCI ran Westinghouse and Frigidaire into the ground and Gibson and Kelvinator. If WCI had done right by these companies and used the best parts of each brand or ideas they could have built one dynamite washer and had a bigger share of the washer market. Or at least a more reliable washer and who knows if WCI had adapted the jet cone agitator from Frigidaire the up and down agi. would still be around today. But am glad that Electrolux has them now and doing very well at building them back up with the 3/4 hp motor and steel gears in the transmissions. My sales people at Garretts in Kearney Ne. told me that the quality of Frigidaire and White-Westinghouse are at the level that Maytag used to be. BTW if you can find out what plant a Maytag was built at it would be benifical for you as the washer that are built at the Amana plant are the ones that Maytag is having the most problems with. Case in point the washers that are sold at Menards in the central states with the Maytag name, (Top Loaders) are the ones are Amana built. Stay a way from them. Guess I have said enough for now but take it from me as good advice. Danf.
