Good morning everyone so a few days ago i discovered that Hoover once had a factory in a place called "Merthyr Tydfil" in Wales in the UK where they used to make washing machines until it sadly closed in 2009. As of today its unfortunatly abandoned. How did it get abandoned? well a long story, in the early 1990's, Hoover were losing money because of a free flights to America promotion that didnt work. After losing about £50 million, which would be a lot more today, Candy bought Hoover in 1998 and they continued to make machines in Merthyr for 10 years. Then in 2008 candy announced that they would be relocating their production of washing machines to the Czech Republic and China and Italy. Sadly it meant they had to close this factory and as a result of this about 350 people lost their jobs. Whats even worse is that no other company's wanted to buy the factory off of Candy so its been left deserted for the last 9 years. It makes me emotional that this factory is abandoned because Hoover made such legendary machines in this factory such as the New Waves, which are my favorite vintage machines of all time and im even willing to replace my Whirlpool AWM 1400 with a New Wave. Now i decided to install a app called "Movie Maker 10" because i wanted to make a photo movie showing you this abandoned factory. The song name is "Island" and its by a artist called "Pyrosion". I really hope you guys will enjoy this video as it will be unique to see a beutiful piece of work.

hope you all enjoyed reading this thread. until next time, take care! :))

New Waves were the beginning of the end in themselves - utter shyte quality compared to the old Electrons and Logics. Plastic outer tubs, sealed-in bearings that fell to bits in no time, inadequate suspension, cheap noisy motors, flimsy cases... just not robust at all. They're a seriously rare find now as a result.

Good work and thanks for posting.

Seems a shame all that real estate being left to rot and ruin. Are there no plans to repurpose any of those buildings or land?

Interesting view of that site.To bad its closed, sad and abandoned-The interior shot shows what looks like attacks by vandals and "copperjackers".Lets hope Candy can sell this place or use it again rather than the building facing the wrecking ball&bulldozer. In one picture the flagpole has flags on it-was this shot taken while the site was still open?
