I just purchased but have not yet received a speed queen front load washer. After calling many local dealers, I was informed that the remaining stock of front load washers had to be ordered in pairs with the dryer. I told the salesman I don't need a dryer, and he called his distributor and informed me that he could bring in a model from last year from out of town and sell me just the washer. The item he showed me a picture of is the front loader with the gray electronic control panel. My receipt says model "AFNE9B" and the description line says "Speed Queen 2015 3.42 CuFT Front Washer." The salesman informed me that the washer had a 3 year warranty. I replied that I thought the Speed Queen Front Loaders with electronic controls had 5 year a warranty. The salesman replied that only the 2018 models do, which I don't believe because I've been following the Speed Queen website for several years and have seen 5 years advertised for an electronic control machine. I downloaded the warranty card from the Speed Queen website for the "AFNE9B" machine and it states 5 years. The salesman also told me not to fill out the warranty registration card so speed queen doesn't know the date I purchased the washer. Can anyone make sense of this situation? I'm tempted to call Speed Queen directly, but I don't want to cause any problems with the dealer because he said that he might be able to do a warranty claim after the 3 years are up if I don't register the machine. I'm concerned that if this machine was really built in 2015 rather that 2017 and I don't register the machine with Speed Queen, that the manufacturer may deny a warranty claim based on the serial number production date, which could shorten my warranty period if it has been sitting in a warehouse for a year or two. Any advice?

Who owns this appliance store, Donald Trump Enterprises? If its not too late already, I would cancel this purchase. There is entirely too much mendacity going on here! Never trust the word of a merchant where a warranty is concerned, if the info you are given by them differs from what the manufacture publishes. When push comes to shove they will be suffering from amnesia, unless and only unless they memorialize their promise in writing.

I included

a picture of the warranty bond form from the AFNE9B that we have on our sales floor. Our model is a 2017, but I believe it is the same bond from previous year models. According to this, you have a full 5 year warranty and lifetime parts on both the tub and basket.

If you can get the serial number of the unit that they are selling you, it's easy to tell the year of manufacture. What is more likely to me is that "2015" is referring to the model series. SQ changed the design of the FL control package in 2015, so this company may refer to them in this way like some people refer to "filter-flo" in reference to a certain series of GE washers, etc.

In response to what the dealer asked you to do in regards to the warranty card, I totally get what they are doing. It may be a morally dubious thing to do, but if you don't tell the manufacturer your specific date of purchase, and the dealer is willing to fudge the date of purchase on a warranty form, you could end up getting warranty coverage outside of your normal time period. I'm not passing judgment on either you or the dealer on whether or not you should do this, but I don't think this is something that should send you running away. The dealer is proposing this idea for your benefit. Even if you want to go ahead and send in the warranty card and do everything above board, I wouldn't use their suggestion as a reason to cancel anything.

Thank your for the information. I'll call the dealer Monday when the open and see if they can locate the same warranty card. Perhaps they will see that they are mistaken.

The Machine Has A 5 Year P&L Warranty

But because it may have been sitting around for a few years SQ asks that you register the purchase with them so you get your full warranty coverage.

We have just sold off the last FL SQs we had on the showroom this past week and we have registered the sales with SQ so the customers get their full 5 years of coverage.

I would differently go ahead with the purchase, this is potentially the best AW ever built for home use.

I hope the washer is from the 2017 models and hasn't been sitting around since 2015. I'll let the SQ experts help you out with id and warranty information but make sure you get what you want, otherwise I would cancel the order.

Steer clear of anything SQ-related. Subpar products from a company that couldn't care less about its customers. Combo52 knows his stuff when it comes to vintage machines, but his comments about modern SQs are ludicrous.

New SQ FL Washers

Hi Richard, What makes you such an expert about new new SQs ? Have you owned one ? Even used one ? or did you gain all your knowledge from the internet LOL ?

I have been selling and providing warranty service for WP, MT appliances since 1972, and we have been selling and providing support for SQ laundry appliances for over a decade, and not only does SQ back their appliances better than any other company in the WORLD, but they are also better built than any older MT, WP, GE, or even a Miele laundry appliance we have ever worked with., so believe what you like, but it doesn't make it so, LOL.

I will agree with John

My comments are strictly about reliability and warranty service, I have a completely different opinion when it comes to performance.

Speed queen does make the most reliable appliances. I have a sq fl in a massage parlor that gets (I’m not kidding) 8-12 loads per day, 7 days a week. Saturday is usually the worst with 12+. It’s been 2 years and the washer still functions just fine. The dryer ironically just needed it’s first repair, new blower wheel.

Speed queen (the corporate) is great about warranty repair. They basically give the service technician a blank check and tell them to make it 100%. And they pay the technician more money than any other brand.

It’s some of the dealers that suck. Speed queen doesn’t replace appliances because they don’t deliver appliances. The independent dealers do. If I ever had a customer that was dissatisfied in any way with ANY new appliance, I’d pick it up in a heartbeat and send them something different.

Problems with speed queen have nothing to do with speed queen and everything to do with the person who sells it.

And it’s safe to say I’m not exactly a speed queen fanboy.

SQ products are rare this side of the pond, but they do exist in commercial settings, and they are infamously unreliable therein. There are also far, FAR too many horror stories from US owners - and frankly, the designs are fundamentally crude. There are better options out there for less money, from companies that will accept a rejection or return and refund your money instead of insisting you keep a defective machine...

I have a speed queen dryer

That is 5 years old. I keep hearing about over drying. If you are using the regular auto dry cycle just set the dial slightly before "less dry" and it seems to dry perfectly every time. This is a model without moisture sensors.

The dryer is very quiet. I don't seem to get any loud thumping that is common with another brand. Especially the way I use a dryer. Wash days are towards the end of the week so the drum sits on the rollers for 5 days straight.

Speed Queen Is The Number One Builder Of Commerical

combo52's profile picture

Washers & Dryers in the world and they have a well deserved reputation for durability and easy repairablity.

They TL washers also have the lowest repair rate of any TL or FL washer in CRs reader survey, unfortunately they have not sold enough FL washers in the US to homeowners to make it into the subscriber survey, but based on our experiences in home and commercial use they would likley be number one in fewest repairs and diffidently would be the longest lasting FL washer.

I like my Speed Queens

They get on average 1 load a week, 2 at most.  Laundry comes out clean.  Simple, perhaps crude, but certainly reliable.

No reboots, patches, software updates, no need to have a surge protector.

Assm in Mexico Nidec motor is common as grass.  So is the drive belt.

I would expect no less than 15 years of trouble free performance.
