I admit it: I'm terribly attached to my Danby DTT420 twin tub that I've had for about 15 years.

But now I'm in an emotional and technical dilemma: the spinner isn't spinning. When I turn the spinner dial, I can hear the pump working but the spinner: it is still and dead. Before it died, I had a load of wet clothes in there and while it was spinning, I did hear a *pOp* under the spinner. But I have no idea what that means.

I've already got the spinner cover off in anticipation of lifting the basket (?) up to see if something did get jammed up and I'm trying to get the back off (the screws are in pretty bad shape and I have to wait until the weekend to really get back there). Then I can poke around aimlessly since I have no idea what I'm doing, really.

In the meantime, I thought I'd ask you experts a couple of questions:

1. Any suggestions of what may have happened and what I should be looking for?

2. What's your tipping point when it's just easier to buy a new washer than fixing the old one?

In my case, the newer model is on sale for $399CAN at a local dealer (or I'd go all-in and spend $520CAN on the automatic top loader).

If I get someone out here to look at the twin tub, it's $95CAN just for the technician to cross my doorstep, probably another $75CAN an hour to look at it and if it's something like the spin motor, that's another $108CAN from Danby Parts Canada (plus shipping). On the other hand, I LOVE my Danby and I'm not sure what I could do with a half-dead machine if I end up buying a new one.

Suggestions, oh wise ones?

The capacitor died...

I don't want to sound like "selling my fish" but in a few weeks the The Laundry Alternative SCAW2GEN and also the new model Silk will be released in Canada and costing much less than that.

Well, it's not the capacitor or the switch...

I've replaced both (and the spinner door) for a total of CAN.

Anything else before I have to buy a new machine (and figure out how to get rid of this one)?
