I recently found really cool brochures for:
1960 Philco Automagic Washers,
1960 Philco Automagic Dryers,
1959 Philco Duomatic.

I've just posted them to the Ephemera Library if anyone wants a copy.

I've never seen in person or a picture of the all push-button 1960 Top of Line Philco washer and dryer before. It's super cool, love to find those!

eBay suggested this photo as something I might be interested in the other day. What are the odds?

The algorithms know everything about us now!

Thanks for these brochures, Robert, they’re just gorgeous.

I guess the Bendix name was permanently dropped after 1959. Too bad.

It does make one wonder doesn't it?

I also wonder how those push button controls work. It is simply a push button or do they slide?

It looks to me like they're just pushbuttons, but staggered. It's different and beatifully streamlined.

It had to as two different companies now owed "Philco-Bendix".

When Philco-Bendix went bankrupt in 1960 Ford Motors got Philco, and AVCO purchased Bendix.

No, Avco had sold Bendix to Philco in 1956.

Philco never went bankrupt. Ford bought Philco because it had such a big defense electronics business.

In any case, the purchase of Philco by Ford wasn't until December 11, 1961, so it had nothing to do with dropping the Bendix name over a year earlier.

I stand corrected.

Sorry.

Actually, if you could see the control panel up close, you would see, at the bottom right the small Philco symbol and it shows the "P" then it says Philco Bendix. A year or two later, they switched it around. the larger plate on front of the machines had the "P" with the words Philco Bendix and the name plate on the control panel said just "Philco".
If I recall, they used Philco Bendix until the end of 1963, then just went to Philco. Definitely by 1965 though...

Okay, thanks, angus. You're always so good about these details!

On review, I was totally mixed up -- the 1959 Duomatic brochure just calls it a Philco Duomatic, but the 1960 brochures of the toploader and dryer do refer to Philco-Bendix and the badges have the smaller "Bendix" just as angus says. The dangers of posting late at night.

And, no problem, Launderess, everybody who has ever posted has made mistakes. I certainly do!
